Alan please don't show up cause I think we have the same rims...

Does grounding work? Does it increase HP and TQ? Does it smooth out idle and throttle? Many people say yes (including Import Tuner) but what do I care? I'm rice so I'm doing this mod.

Look forward to seeing your car.

I'll be doing this mod as well, but won't be at the meet. I'm going to check out Princess Auto. They have amp wire install kits there for cheap.

OK... we went to the electronic surplus store on Dixie and Matheson. Found out that they only had BROWN 4 AWG wire and red 8 AWG wire. we thought the 8 AWG would be too thin and not efficiently ground enough, so we're going to wait 2 weeks for the next shipment. This time, he will have more colours including silver, blue and red 4 AWG wire. The guy there is offering this at a good price, which is why we are going there.

so look for an update in about 2 weeks.

i remember they have other colors as well, coz i just did mine hehe, hum, did not notice any difference, but i guess that 1whp is hard to notice.

I still would like to be in on this deal...
If the wires do come in 2 weeks, I may be in HAWAII still..
Can someone [MP5Navy or Chops] pick me up some for my ride...I would prefer BLUE but if there is no blue, I will settle for black wires...

Thanks Guys.

are the wires you picked up insulated so as to not get affected by the weather and the heat from the engine???

Most wires that are 4 gauge that i've seen are simply the stranded copper wires wrapped in coloured plastic......

I don't think the electronic surplus store on Dixie and Matheson sells insulated ones...please correct me if I'm wrong.

LOL you guys are funny... C'mon sheilded grounding wire for the engine bay? How vain can you get! Most of you are running unsheilded power wire in your stereo systems yet you want the best kind of grounding wires for your ride? You kids are looking for 4 guage when your sound is hooked up with 8 guage? If you have the extra money buy the sheilded and swap it with the power wire for your sound system and use the old sound system wire to ground your engine bay!

Sheilded wire is definitely a waste of money and good judgement. EYT (Eric) did this mod and said he didn't notice any difference... This is a rice mod so don't dump you money on $2/ft sheilded grounding wire - you won't notice it....

the wire that i used is a copper wire with plastic wrap it, i found that the car alway give me static shock so i hope the ground wire will help. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

GTECH readings after home made ground kit (http://www.mazdamp3.com/vbb225/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19675)

I know its a GTECH reading, but it confirms many of the articles out there.

nice ... like i said, we're waiting for that electronics store to stock up 4gauge wire in different colours. they're giving us a really good price on it too... probably less than $1.25 per foot if we buy a lot.

Copied this from the protegemp3.com board. this guy, Flat_black, grounded his wires using these points. You can see the pics using the link below.

http://www.protege5.com/vbb225/gall...lery=groundkit/

There you go... I took a bunch of pictures of the install. Here's a list of where I grounded the cables to.

1.) Negitave Battery terminal
(I got a two 4 gauge and one 8 gauge terminal so I could retain the stock grounding points, too)

2.) The sensor off of the intake tube. I only did this to use up the spare piece of 4 gauge I had. =)

3.) Intake Manifold

4.) Fuel Rail

5.) Passenger Side Chassis

6.) Drivers Side Chassis

7.) Original Chassis Ground, a little more toward the Driver's Side from the battery.

8.) Negative Battery Terminal, again.

As you can see, I set it up a little like HKS' Circle Earth system, by returning to the same ground point where I started. After measuring resistances between the battery and the altinator, and the battery and chassis, after finishing this up, it seemed to drop the parasitic increase of resistance, the further I got from the battery. Definitly worth it. =) The engine idles smoother, responds faster, and, as forementioned, I gained about 3-4hp off of the install. Hope this helps!

This may seem like a stupid question, but wouldn't Canadian Tire, Home Depot or some Car Audio Store sell insulated 4 gauge wires too?

BTW, I'm interested too if it's not too late. Problem is I'm Farmside.
