View Full Version : June 21, 2008 - Official Rookies Meet

Spyder01
June 21st, 2008, 11:21 PM
The Toronto Protege Club held their annual rookies meeting at Yorkdale shopping center. What was expected to be a rainy day turned out great for the meet, the sun came out a few times, the weather was very nice. Amazing to see soo many cars came out, at one point, I am sure there were more than 30 pros. Really really really an amazing sight considering the Mazda Protege stopped production since 2004.

A member was even spotted on dufferin rd after shopping at Yorkdale who did not know there was a meet today!

Member had the chance to meet other new members and soon, club president, Junior got everybody together to welcome all the new members. And everybody headed off to dinner. About 20 cars showed up for the dinner, members got to chat some more and afterwards got to hang out by the cars again.

i wouldnt get too upset about it, eric did a good job taking a lot of pics for the small amount of time we there before going to dinner and the large amount of proteges i believe it wouldve been hard to get pics of everyones car. . .

Understandable, but from the other meets I viewed I thought it was tradition. The point of the rookie meet is to validate new members, yes? I suppose if the club keeps growing at its current rate there will be too many rookies to keep track of, therefore not everyone will get accounted for.

last few years we've had about 7,8 rookies a year. Max. This year is much higher, and the fact that we weren't at the parking lot for as long as usual would probably explain why "tradition" was broken.

Great job as always Eric

You certainly didn't waste any time detailing your car. I saw it and your 1st gen Pro looks amazing. You really did a great job, very clean car. As for the photo coverage, I think Eric did a pro job covering the event for the short amount of time we had at Yorkdale.

Spyder is also open to photo requests during a meet, as he did for me yesterday (Sport 20 badge).

Many hours put into it, I don't think some people have the idea of the time I spent to make it look that good - and then it rains. It was literally spotless inside out, every piece of green waxed, every rubber piece shined with dressing. Thanks for your comments. I didn't know you could request photos.

the only thing im sad about is how i parked on the wrong row of cars, In the picture of all the P5's and the Sedans back to back sedan was at the end of the P5 row ahaha.

I hear that. It was so busy. Is there a mall in Toronto that's not busy as hell on a Sunday? Fairview Park mall here in Kitchener would have large areas free for the amount of cars we had.

Steve your car looked awesome!! i noticed a lot of people looking and made comments when you rolled in. a picture wouldnt have done the work you put into it justice :) (no matter how amazing Erics shooting skills are :))

No probs Steve. Yes, we met, I talked to you about the great condition your car was (spotless) and the BP motor, which I'm very familiar with. There were a few peeps huddled around your car, so all that detailing work produced some good results minus the pics unfortunately. Next time for sure.:)

^I must have gotten you confused with someone else. I went to one Westside meet once at Boston Pizza eariler this year, I forget why I went though because I know it wasn't posted up as an "average" meet. I got sick the day after I visited, sucks.

Its hard to make it to meets like those when you're an hour drive away, and then I have to work next morning at 8am. Plus I don't really know anyone, I hate being the odd one out as everyone else has known eachother for so long now. Sucks I only discovered this forum this year, as I've had my Pro since July 2004 and could have gotten all this rookie stuff over and done with a long time ago.

I dunno, its really hard for me to break-in to such a well-knitted group of people; the outsider from k-dub that drives an un-modded first gen. I know if I don't go, I won't know anyone, its just the groups are already so well formed after many years, if I had joined earlier I'd be far past this stage already. Plus (I'm not trying to make excuses) I don't always have the time to drive to TO every Thursday.

lol yeah you joined up only a month before I did...over 2,000 posts?!?!

How come no one makes the long trip from anywhere else for Kitchener meets, mmmm? :p But we here have to drive to the big cities? Have you tried our wings?

Majority of people live closer or in the big city so its more aof a centralized location as oppose to 20+ pros crusing outt to kitchener.

Perhaps if there was an offishal meet out that way made by someone legit and planned out well ( other than just a parking lot) people will make the trip.
I went on the C7 thing yesterday bc they were going to niagara, we didnt just stand around talking about cars, people who weren't scared ( I was!) went on the wheel of death, then dinner.

Trust me man, the only way for a club/prganization to grow is to bring people in, which TOP does very well.
I felt and still sometimes feel like an odd man out. All I care about is sound and music, most guys here are all about engine mods.
Stop your bitching and come out or organize a meet.

I like to talk :D thats how you get to know people - talking to them. lol

Firstly if you consider yourself an outsider thats Bunk and this has nothing to do with "tight knit" groups.

Personally I didnt find it hard to start talking to people... I just showed up to my first meet (London lol - No Vic I didnt drink the water) and had a fun time, then started showing up at West and Eastside meets and just talking to people. thats all it takes.

Its unfortunate that your perspective of these "tight knit groups" is keeping you from saying "HI" and making new friends :(. I used to be like that, it was really lonely.

Tell you what how about we meet up wednesday and ill bring you to the Eastside meet. That way we can chit chat in the car and then you feel a bit more at ease when you get to the meet? unless you want to just crusie out together. maybe we can get a few other K-dubbers to come out as well :)

And to agree with iJay (for once he he ;)), its easier having us far westsiders go to TO.

Which one is it?

I'm sure we could figure something out. We'll just have to try a few ummmmm experiments and maybe move the inbox to various positions....I mean....locations. ;)

Wow for a second there it was like waiting for the second shoe to drop. :D

Bottom line if you come out and your not just going to sit in your car or off to the side you will see folks will pull you into the conversations and welcome you into the group. Some effort has to be on the new person to want to meet new people as well, but over all this is the most friendly group of car folks i have ever been around. Look at it like this members bring their children, spouses and parents to events so that should say a lot for the social nature of TOP. (okay so this covers my posting quota for the last few weeks i been missing LOL)

I found London a good bunch to get along with. Maybe I should go to the next Hammer meet? Toronto is big and scarey :p with alot more oldschool club members there. Considering my perpective, I've always been an observer of people and view how people react to other people. I've always been intimidated being a new person, all my life. I dunno why.

I don't wanna be a burden on you and make me look out to be a special case; I do have a backbone, it just takes me a while to warm up to people, as taken from personal experiances I don't trust too many people. Plus Eastside - how much longer of a drive is that vs Westside? TO is huge, and I know very little of it.

It's true. Sometimes we feel-up new recruits :woot:
lol, are you this funny in person? haha.

All very true, and this place is friendy. Only thing I could really talk about is music as I know alot about it. And my gen of Pro, and animation, etc.

Relax Steve, you'll be fine. I was expecting to pick a corner at yorkdale and curl up in the fetal postition but everyone was madd cool and friendly. If the rest of meets are anything like this one was, there'll never be anything to worry about. It was my first meet and I loved it (Yes, Mr. Midnitehour Jeff Man Sir, I know I joined the club last year, but I made a rookie meet, right?). Some fresh people in this club, fuh real. Looking forward to meeting more.

Steve, Me and Mike talked to people and we both live in towns with one traffic light. I don't really live in Belleville, nor does Mike. I'm from Frankford, Mike is from Stirling. So yeah..one traffic like. Nuff said. ;)

lol you should get into social work... Thats all I do all day observe people and analyze lol. It's fun to find out what makes people tick :)

Nope no burden or a special case, I like to encourage people to get out to meets and mingle with the other members. It has nothing to do with you having a backbone or not :) And eastside is about 45, if that, minutes from my house... and im on the Stoney Creek side of Hamilton (way eastside side for those that have no idea what im talking about)

Meeting new people can be pretty intimidating sometimes its easier to go with another person... My first meet I made my brother come with me (ok my mom did lol - but the bugger turned around half way to London... jerk - Yes Dan I called you a jerk :p) - at least by then I wasnt intimidated the TO and London crews were really welcoming to my noodness.

So let me know if you want to come tomorrow night and Ill swing threw Milton and meet up with you on the 401 :) I wont be staying too late as I have another exam Thursday morning with the Passport office :) - I'm gunna be an officer soon :D - self fullfilling prophecy my friends... :woot:

...

Sometimes I get nervous when I meet new people, and I end up soiling my pants (front AND back). People end up laughing, so I just laugh it off like I did it on purpose as a joke. But it makes me sad inside. So I suppose I am sad as a person....and only funny on the exterior. But I hurt inside. A deep burning hurt, only understood by one who has also soiled themselves in public....numerous times.

:mj:

P.S. - I added the Michael Jackson emoticon only because he is also misunderstood. And also because I can't think of ANY other reason why anyone would ever need to use that emoticon.

When you say tommorrow I assume you meant today as your post was posted past midnight. Sorry but this was waaay too short notice for me and I was busy at work and didn't get home till 6:30 and am dead beat. I wouldn't have even made it. I don't have time anyway, I have many things to get done (not making excuses!, I lost ALOT of time being sick with the stomach flu for five days of vacation). I can also see why crews were really welcoming to your nudeness. Maybe next time we can meet up.

Scooter - when I checked your post at the computer at work, in a quiet room, I literally lol'ed at the MJ ref, and forgot there was someone beside me.

A-hee-hee! Chom-on...
