Does anyone know what can be done to increase the horsepower of the MP5 and still retain factory warranty?  I'm looking to have 170hp.  I have a 2003 MP5.

Thanks.

1. No;
2. Good luck - you'll need about $2,500+ in parts to get to approximately 150hp at the crank ('bout 120 - 125 at the wheels) if you're staying NA (and about another $500 in mechanic's fees). If you're going turbo - minimum of $4,000 just for the turbo parts - Spoolin's Stage 1 kit (that doesn't inlcude install, engine management, big break kit, intercooler, etc. etc.);

haha, 170 hp eh, without void warranty!!! you should import the jap version then will be ok. hehehe.

without void any warranty, all the mod you can do is the follow:

cai, cat-back exhaust and 14" or 15" (better) rim, and spark plug, spark plug wire, engine mounts, engine oil stuff, ohoho, maybe 97 octane gas. hehe, will boost to 120 wheel max,

The only true way to get that much  horsepower on an Mp5 without voiding warranty is to put it on a trailer and pull it with a hummer.  Oh wait, or trade it for an MSP.  that will work!!

If you haven't noticed, if you put a different air freshner in your car the dealers will try and say that it will void warranty!

If you want more power and if you have the money, and we are talking a couple grand to get that much and do it properly you might as well kiss your warranty good bye.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but yo uhave to choose one or the other, keep the waranty and move like a turtle... or screw the warranty and put some power behind the wheels.

Me too! Forget the warranty! If you want to play you have to pay! Drive it, modify it and have fun with it!

Don't let a factory warranty scare you from enjoying your hobby! There are a lot of mods you can perform before warranty any way. Intake exhaust. Wires, Pulleys, Header. clutch, Flywheel LSD.

Don't let warranty scare you!

Or you can find someone like i am looking for to a build custom ECU harness for absolute plug & play capabilities for a Stand Alone system. Break the car, unplug...take it back.

But I won't find this guy until my warranty is expired any way so what is the point of looking very hard!

Tradditionally, by messing with the internals (ie. pullies), you void your warranty. However, as is the case with MOST companies now (Mazda included), modifications ALONE wont void a warranty. The dealerships will look at a problem individualy. For example, a cam is not going to be the cause of your air conditoning not working. If the problem is DIRECTLY realted to the mod (ie. O2 sensor not working because of an aftermarket header), warranty will be voided.
Also, alot of dealerships now will perform the installs with you and cover it under warranty. Not being from T-Dot, I dont know which dealers in the GTA will do this (I beleive Dave Wood in NM will) but I know that my local dealership will and has (JDM cams, header, etc).
And actually, at Toyota dealerships, if you have, for example, the TRD skirt kit factory installed when you buy your Celica, its covered 100% under your Toyota warranty (same with other NON-TRD parts too)!

Hey Mazdaspeed161
I met a guy you might want to talk to.  His name is Paul Neethling.  He's got a small shop where he specializes in tuning and tweaking ECUs.  He built his own four wheel dyno with dual rollers at each wheel, and independent water brakes to vary the load.  Then he wrote his own software to run it!  He's also got experience reverse engineering and rewriting the code in factory ECUs.  Contact info is on his website.

Ian, I don't think the link works!

I really don't understand this whole warranty thing. Whats the difference if you break something soon or 3 years from now if you install a parts three years from now. The fact is if the parts breaks because of something you install then it will break after your warranty is up. If something unrelated breaks then you can go in for warranty work.

Forget the warranty.

Just a note,

A pulley is not an internal. A piston is an internal as is a rod. They exist and work inside the block hense the term internal.

You are correct, Dave Wood is directly linked to Motorsport and his techinicians like to modify Mazdas.

I have always been led to believe that warrnaty will only be voided if a modification directly hinders the perfomance
of a vehicle, changes the purpose of a prescribed part on a vehicle. Or alters the original location of a prescribed part. I.E. (Turbo kit will likely alter placement of certain items and as we know...screws with emissions)

As most enthusiasts agree, our goal is to improve performance if we are adding parts that hinder performance then we are doing something wrong and yes your warranty should be voided.

A pulley is an accessory and is a power sucking parasite. However, we all love our creature comforts so Pulleys are our friends.

Maybe more clarification is needed.

BTW, because somthing like your o2 sensor doesnt work because of a header, it doesnt void your WHOLE warranty. You can still go back and bitch about your air conditoning being broked!
