Just in case the same problem happened for anyone else. I could not view the new portal at Toprotege.com. It still showed up as the old MSP banner. You must clear you Cache and it worked smoothly. :)

Great job!

I didn't see a favicon, so I was wondering maybe you guys were going to create one, or run a contest asking members to create entries and see which one got picked by the Officers?

Something like this?

It's kinda a pita when you want to quickly check the forum to say referance something, like at work, but you can't and you have to log in no matter what. Also, alot of sigs, like mine, are all messed up now.

I just went in and fixed my sig, didn't take too long. As for logging in, that takes 2 secs too.

dead_cactus
May 25th, 2008, 01:06 PM
I've seen TONS of messed up sig's recently. There should be an official announcement to have people check there sig's. Most people might not even notice if they have sig's turned off.

Cool_Steve
May 25th, 2008, 02:20 PM
The private setting is also a pita when I want to referance something to someone else on the board, and if I shoot them a link they won't even be able to see it as they are not a member. Sometimes its handy to referance other message baords, and I don't think you want every person visiting here becoming a member just to view a thread - the member count would skyrocket with dead weight.

Edit - did we lose font choices in the sigs? I had mine on Garamond, why do we only get one text choice?

Go down to the bottom left hand side of any forum screen and you can change back to the default one. I felt the same way which is why I changed it myself, much to the dismay of Perma. :p

I personally like the red. Great idea guys. Any plans for other colors as well?Just wanted something a bit different and to match the club logo.

We could load some default colours, but what fun is that? They'd look like any other forum.

Contrary to those that think we look like RFD (not intentional :o ), Permz did a sick job of creating this scheme from scratch, which is a PITA as there are a lot of parameters to change.

We do have another style coming down the pipes though, won't be useful for everyone, but for those that need it - it will be a godsend! ;)

Mike_Moss

Permz and I would like to say thanks to all for the constructive comments both posted and received via PM!

Also, a couple of key things to note (as a few members have suggested - thanks again! :)):

NEW Website Colours (as you've probably noticed)
*** The new colour scheme is selectable at the bottom left of any page.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR SIGNATURE FOR BROKEN CODE!
*** This is something that you should constantly be monitoring especially if you're linking your image from a site such as PhotoBucket. There are quite a few people with dead images.

We thought long and hard about this decision!

Well, I guess that is something I liked about TOP. It was an open forum, open to the public. It lets new, potential members get a feel for the club before joining. If the forum wasn't public, I would have never joined. It was reading though the posts and getting a sense of what the folks were like on the board which helped me with my decision.

I've seen other car clubs disappear from turning their forums private, I'm not sure if you remember DSCR. I just don't want to see TOP go down the same path they did.

It seems like a minor point, but the changes how people view the club. It goes from an open, welcoming forum, to a private clique.

I hope you guys reconsider.

The main reason for making a forum private is for the security and safety of all the members of the forum that post pics of their cars/mods sometimes their homes and other personal types of pictures. While I understand that the most personal of pics should not be posted on the internet, since it'll never be 100% private or exclusive, we're doing our part in helping to keep a certain level of 'safety' in knowing that the people that will view your pix will be the ones that are registeres and part of this community.

We may not get the odd 'guest lurker', but that's why we have now created a portal for even guests to see what the club is about without actually signing up. The club is a strong SOCIAL club, in my eyes ... The forum is just a tool for communication, and not the sole reason we are all here.

They can't browse the forum (until the sign up), but that's how it should have been from the beginning (and it used to be this way ... when the club originally started) We're returning it to the roots.

When you signed up, there was no such portal in existence and having the forum private may have deterred you at that time, but the website is different now, with the creation of the portal.

My decision to join the club didn't hinge on whether or not the forum was public or not. And I didn't consider myself a Member until I started paying an annual Membership to an officer and carrying a card. What you are talking about is just the online forum portion of a Car Club. I became a Member because of the quality of the people, the way the club was run, and the wealth of information, help and advice - most of that has manifested in the (more important) real world of the club, than just the forum.

Just because most of the online forum is now private, doesn't make me feel like its something exclusive. I'm used to many online forums now requiring 'membership' to join, but that's just to view the forum posts. That's hardly the full extent of the car club.

I don't think the change in how the forum posts can get accessed will hurt "membership" in the club, seeing as the most important "membership" is still very much open, welcome and more importantly, exists in the real world which is the strongest aspect of a successful Car Club.

I prefer that it be private

I find that the members of this forum are pretty close. Naturally, people want to share news of their personal lives, mods to their cars, or even their lawns. You get caught between a rock and a hard place because you would like to share some info & pics, but dont want it scattered all over the net. I know people can just register, take the info and leave, but having the forum initially set to private for all lurkers still provides a small sense of security and I enjoy it

I noticed just now that the original thread dates are now showing in the titles :D

Nice touch

Good work guys!
