Only two weeks after getting the Autoexe front lip spoiler installed on my car and driving around with it, I finally did it........cracked that piece of urethane like a motha fakka.........

happened around 10pm tonight (May 8) getting out of my driveway.......took the usual slanted exit out of the driveway......unfortunately, the ministry has been working on our subdivision and took off all the asphalt from the road leaving those huge ass person holes and driveway entrances that are miles high... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif ....on the way down everything went well until the last tire got out of the driveway, then all i heard was WHAM!!! i was like "shiet, this can't be happening".......got out of the car and walked over to the right side and yup......cracked that lip spoiler so bad that it was basically dangling on the right side........ http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif .........now i have to take it in to get patched up........only thing i'm glad is that it was made of urethane instead of fiberglass otherwise i would just have to kiss the whole lip goodbye.......

i wonder how much it would cost to get something like that repaired so that it's strong enough to hold again........this sucks!

JA - we just saw the car today for happy hour and all was fine! I can't believe what happened. I don't know the cost for repair but you're also gonna have to get it painted.

I'm pissed for ya man. Post the pics so we can all cry with you.

I'm assuming a Ghetto Concept fix won't do!
I'll ask around and look through some autoshow pamphlets; there are guys on the market who fix those kinds of mishaps and specialize in it.

By the way, how are the Teins?

Hey JA, the one i have in the garage needs a friend!!
Sorry to hear that.. send me some pic i will see if i can get it fixed for you. The only downside is now that you have cracked it it will obviously be more suseptable and if you were careful before you are going to have to be extra careful now...

thanks everyone for feeling my pain...... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

i spoke with my body shop guy and will be taking the lip into the shop to have him take a look at it.......not sure how easy it is going to be to fix this considering it's majorly cracked at the joint corner which is where the screws are so may have added stress to it.......i'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the fix is going to be okay..........at work right now so now pictures yet... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

demon - teins are great apart from the clickity click that i get.....but i'm speaking w/ tein and trying to resolve the issue.......hopefully that will get resolved quickly and in my favour...... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh man...JA...I am fecking sorry to hear that.

I live in a new subdivision as well, and those bastards have just come around to put in curbs - they plowed all the mud and rocks off the street so now I have a 3 foot drop to get to the road from my driveway.

I've got to go in at a crazy angle, and I still rub - I think I'd cry like a little school girl if that had been me.

dr_"feels your pain"_sarcasm.

P.S. JA's misfortunes are the reason that I will not go out and get that lip - no matter how much I like it (JA is taking it like a man - I'd be a whiney bitch if I cracked my lip).

Sorry to hear about your AUTOEXEC lip. Even Urethane cracks too. The best for your type of road situations would be to invest in a flexible chin spoiler. look for something made out of rubber.

My condolences. This was the exact reason why I didn't get that lip. Spending all that money and now you have to spend even more on it, IMO its totally not worth it. I am more than happy with my onderground stuff, much cheaper and still get crazy noticed with it. For the price you cant beat it.

jali-p5
May 9th, 2003, 05:21 PM
with the force that my bumper came down on that hump, i would have totally destroyed the onderground one and need to get a whole new one.......but you're right.....would have been slightly cheaper....... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif .........

aight.......so here's the scoop on the latest in trying to figure out what to do w/ my now majorly cracked AE front spoiler........

took it to my body shop guy (worked on a number of my other cars before) and he broke it down for me this way
- $120 to repair the crack on the lip
- $120 to repaint the entire front lip w/ Mazda paint

damn it! i was hoping it wasn't going to cost this much to fix the darn thing, so now i'm looking for other options or hookups to get my lip fixed.......

how's the price look?? too much?? good deal??

Why don't you try Kevin at DWM?

After the fix, what happends if you scratch or hit the lip again in the same area?

Hey there JALI, that Peel Region resurfacing program is gradually moving over to my street soon. Hopefully my H&R's won't be a problem when I get them installed.

good idea, i'll check w/ kevin and see what he says on monday........

if i scratch the lip, no big deal for me cause i've done that already........hehehehe........

if i hit the lip again in the same area then i'm SOL and gonna cry all the way home http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif they said that the repair won't bring it back to the strength it was before, and if i hit w/ the amount of force that i hit last time, then it will crack again.........but minor hits and scrapes should be okay.......remember, when i hit it was like dropping my car onto the curb landing right on the lip......that's why the damage was soooo extensive.......

yeah, what a pain in the ass that was, my problem is the fact that i had two person/maintenance/man-holes right in front of my drive way, so when i reversed out of my driveway ever so carefully, the back must have been raised causing the front to dip when it touches the ground by that 2" raise thus causing the tremendous impact and sound of schreeking pain eminating from my mouth, followed by the very prominant "AH F**K!!"..........

according to the city works supervisor, they normally remove the top layer (about 2-3") from the streets during a resurfacing program, but for my street, they removed the whole top layer of tar (about 4"+) from the street.......they've put the base layer on now and are in the process of putting the final layer on next week......

all i can say, is be extra extra careful once your car's lowered.......if mike (chops) went up my driveway on Thursday, he would have lost his entire front bumper in much the same way as i lost my AE lip......

man, that licks. looks like both of us had some bad luck with our cars this week. my car caugh a foul ball with it's windshield the other day. had to replace it.

you might want to consider finding another place to bolt on your lip once you get it fixed to minimize the loads from transfering to the cracked area. i'd imagine there isn't much clearance between the crack and your bumper so you probably can't fit a lot of reinforment material in there. anyway, good luck with the repair.
