Mobil 1 seems to be the popular choice with some of us. I switched @ 4000 km after 2 months on the new car. Just did my second change a week ago @ 7800 km.
Viscosity may be more of an issue than brand. I'm using 5W30.

Mobil1
If you want to be really cool you can get Motul or Redline...

Mobil 1. Not truely synthetic but it still runs cleaner and isn't as expensive at full syn oils like Redline and Motul.

u used to be able to get a gallon of it at wal-mart, and also at Crappy Tire. Usually anywhere else will be more expensive!!!

I buy my Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart. It's the cheapest price but you have to do some lining up at the cash register so buy some other stuff you need at the same time. Think it's $23.99 - I don't remember and I don't really look anymore at the price cause I just know it's the best deal around.
For the summer I would go with a 5W30.

I believe it was $28.99 at Wal-Mart when I was there. CT had it for a little cheaper when they had their sale recently.
Either way it's a good deal.
As far as filters go, I have placed faith in Fram for years. A coworker of mine who is a motorcycle nut, read me an article on how lousy the Fram filters were for his Suzuki Bandit. Cardboard internals that break down too easily. Makes me wonder if buying the Mazda filter would be better...

Mark I used to use Fram filters too until I saw some pics of the internals in comparison to OEM Mazda filters. Now I buy my oil at Wal-Mart and buy my filters at Mazda.
Mike if you want to use the same oil for all your oil changes I would tell you to stick with the 10W30. But there is no rule that says you can't switch weights in the course of a year.

I use to do the 10w30 and 5w30 switch...but now i use 5w30 all year round for the p5.
I was talking to the service guy at Avante when i got my oil change done (the free first one) and he told me not to use 10w30 cause the oil pump is designed for a thinner oil.
However, in the owner's manual it says we can use either one. any thoughts?
also...i usually pick up my oil filters from Scarbrough Mazda..cause they give you the free washer for the drain nut.
I don't have a torque wrench..so i put the drain plug on pretty tight..so i change the washer everytime..

My two cents:
Fram sucks. The mazda filter is the best deal.

You can get a deal from mazda dealers if you buy your oil filters in six packs http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

I was looking for a better oil filter after I installed my turbo and found that there were a couple of companies like Fram that make filters, but nothing that I would call "Higher Performance". My mazda dealer suggested that I use the 626 Turbo filter as it would be a direct fit to the 2.0 DOHC block and that because it was designed for the 626 Turbo, it has a diferent pop valve inside that would divert oil around the filter under hard driving conditions to keep pressure and flow rates up!
The housing is twice as large as the stock one, fits with lots of room to spare and if size = more filter element. I think it is a great cheap thing to do. Here is a part number...

I use Mobil 1 in both my P5 and now the wife's Beetle. Walmart and CT have sales regularly so I wait and buy them in the 4 litre jugs then.

I switched over to Mobil 1 Synthetic, using 5W 30 in the winter.
I also use the Mazda filter (costs $5.00 more) but gives me piece of mind.

Instead of starting a new thread... I'll use this one.
I'm due up for my 48k service this week, as well as my first experience with DWM and all along I've been using regular (dino) oil .. but after hearing good things about the so called synth oil I am thinking about switching...
Gonna do the Mobil1 route.. I assume that I just bring in my purchased (5w30) oil and give it to them to put in or am I missing sumthing? Anything else I should keep in mind? Suggestions? Thx.

Yeah, something you guys who use Mazda OEM filter should note... They are FRAM from what I have noticed (Made in Canada, and have the typical 2 dash marking near the thread. Â You might want to check with thekid and get the European Mazda OEM filters from the v6 626, much better quality. Mobil 1 syn. is a good oil choice.

yeah you might as well bring your oil with you, as it's cheaper at wally mart than the dealer. just make sure they don't charge you for the oil.
when i swithed to synth i started with Amsoil 5w30.. expensive shit and supposed to be one of the best, up there with redline and motul.
now i'm sticking with mobil 1. I noticed they have 3 new extended life mobil 1 oils now. 5000mile drain interval one, a 7500mile one, and a 15,000 mile one. If the 5000k one is more expensive i'll stick with the regular mobil 1, but maybe the regular mobil 1 will drop a bit in price as a result of the 3 new lines.. that would be aight.

I don't know, Mobile 1 is the oil that Hondakilla and myself blew our engines on, in burns up too fast when running hard.
