Hey. Putting together a big list of stuff I'm planning on taking care of once the weather gets warm. I'm going to add/edit the list as I see fit over the next month, and based upon what suggestions you guys can give me on products.
I'm in need of suggestions for what products are best bang-for-buck so that I can go out and buy them. Not looking for super performance, just a daily driver. I'll update the list on the first post in case anyone else hopes to use this as a reference.
Hopefully this list can serve to help anyone planning a similar tune-up, and is also around the 80-100k range.
1. Spark Plugs
NGK
2. Brake Pads
Hawk HPS
3. Transmission Oil (Manual) (looking to flush)

5. Coolant (looking to flush)

6. Clay Bar / Formula

3. Remove side mouldings

on and off, i've been doing some research on the same thing items as you since i want to do some maintenance on my P5 as well. I'm around the 65K mark now and by summer i'd like to get a few things changed here and there. I haven't decided on any specific product to use, but here's what i've researched so far...
1. Plugs
I was reading a sparkplug thread sometime ago on mazdaforums and it seems that alot of ppl have used the NGK ZFR5F-11 with success. However, i believe you need higher octane in order to prevent knock. You can refer to the thread here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123631485&highlight=long+reach+spark+plugs
2. Brake Pads
Cannot comment here as my brakes literally had 1000km on them before i purchased my car and are probably good for the next 2 years.
3. Transmission Oil (Manual)
Alot of threads on this subject already on here. Mainly Redline and Royal Purple are the top choices. I'm personally thinking if it really is worth the price. ie. go w/a cheaper oil but change more often?
4. Motor Oil + Filter
Many P5 owners have gone the synthetic route...i personally will not be doing this. I stocked up on Castrol GTX 5W-30 last time it was on sale at CT (i think its $12.99 at CT this wk + free FRAM oil filter). My dad used this stuff in his cars for the past 20 years and it seems to do a good job. In addition to the oil, filters are also important to change. pigeon (vendor) from hamilton sells K&N in boxes so ask him for a quote. i'm heading down to the states probably in march so i'm gonna see if i can pick up some Purolators or the like.
5. Coolant (looking to flush)
I believe most, if not all coolant is the same. I looked up more procedure than any specific product. Myk wrote one on here somewhere...can't seem to find it now :o
6. Clay Bar / Formula
I got in on the Mother's GB and bought the claybar set saving about $7 if I were to buy at CT.
Hope that helps. I'm also looking for suggestions to help my list once spring comes along :)

You don't need higher octane to run the NGK ZFR5F-11.. I don't know why that info keeps getting spread around, there's dozens running them without using anything more than 87.
A full set is < $9 (here, in USD)
Iridiums are hardly worth the cash. They'll end up fouling up with how Proteges run long before they wear out. Since it's so easy to change the plugs it's no issue to need to replace them what.. every 35-45k?
For oil.. stick with Elf (now TOTAL) full synthetic. The crap at the stores isn't truly synthetic, it's only allowed to be called synthetic in north america. Yes, this includes mobil1, royal purple, etc. If for whatever reason you just don't want elf, check out Redline, another real synthetic.
For coolant, get animal safe coolant :) doesn't kill doggies, kittites, and other animals who love the sweet sweet taste of coolant.

hmmm. I don't like my neighbour's dog much though...
j/k :p
I'll probably look into Elf. And I'll prob just pick up the best priced plugs that work.

The ZFR5F-11 will be the same price as the stock plugs (BKR5E-11 I believe).. they're the same thing just slightly different (i.e. the ZFR is long reach). Expect around $9 for the set of 4.

Is Motul Fully Synthetic as well?
What oil weight do you use? Motul doesn't make a full synthetic in many weights..
The following 100% synthetic, ester based oils are available:
300V-This is Motul's line of pure racing oils and is available in a variety of viscosity ranges. Also suitable for non-racing use particularly in modified and FI engines.
8100 E-Tech lite 0W-30
8100 Ester E-Tech 0W-40
