View Full Version : User Groups Color Codes

Dear TOP members,

In an ongoing effort to make changes that improve the community and forum, the officers have devised a color coding system that has been implemented so that certain user groups are distinguishable at first glance.

You'll notice that Officers have RED usrnames, Vendors and Sponsors are now GREEN and the pgirls group has been changed to PINK, for easy recognition.

I hope you all welcome this change as an improvement!

Pro.

Its just a lot of red on the right side of the forum. I think green would have been easier on the eyes for the officers, and have the vendors as red. but i think its generally a good idea.

Not sure if I'm feeling the red clashing with the blue up the side of the screen.

For the record, color choices have been implemented for 'ease of visibility'.. not for fashion statements or personal preferences.

What about color coding Regions?
eg, Eastside ....Yellow?

It was considered, but then it would get all confusing all over again, if there was 10 or more different colour choices going on. The main point of this change was for ease of visiblity for new members as well as older members.

One quick glance in any thread and you know who you can turn to for help or questions, without having to search for an officer and not knowing how to contact one.

Coding doesn't seem to work in the birthday calendar or Private messages. Wonder why it doesn't persist there? No big deal really, as it seems to need to work in the forums (threads, posts).

Also, the people I can recognize from the TOProtege Authorized Vendors (http://www.toprotege.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48) list aren't showing up green (like, in the 'last post' column, or as 'thread starter'). How come?

Good idea though, really helps highlight the groups you've mentioned.

Can like Donating Members also get a colour?!

I can see colours for 'special' groups like vendors and officers.. but going that far (donating members) seems to stray from the intended purpose (making things more visible to new users).

I mean it does already say donating member right under your name right now :)

if you're going to go that far how about dirty gross brown for people from the states ;)

(kidding.. please don't haha)

I like the colours for user groups idea though. I did something similar on the forum I admin on and got some flak for doing so. People didn't want admins/mods looking 'superior' to other members.

In a more established and larger community such as this one it's a lot more important for new users to know who they can trust (officers/vendors) so I think it works great!

keep up the good work!

one of these days I'll make it to a weekly meet to get my donation for this year in :P

I don't like how all the moderators are displayed on the right side of the forum homepage.... it's just a big useless clutter to me... which is why it's disabled on my board as the other staff and I on my board decided that such extra information was irrelevant and reduces efficiency... I'm glad it's an option to disable it in vb3... in vb2 you can't even do that!

but aside from adding such trivial information (which is all your choice, and has been done so already), I can't understand why the board software hasn't been upgraded yet as the old ones are full of vulnerabilities!

2008 marks the fourth year of this version of vbulletin :P

On the other hand I think it's good to show who the moderator of a specific subforum is, makes it a lot more visible to a new user than the "view forum leaders" page is. It's only about 100 pixels wide of information too. Sure the page can't fit at 800x600 but it comes close to being able to.

In the end it is 'their' forum, so of course it isn't set up exactly how you have yours. Aside from an ad banner rotation and some custom user groups this appears to be a totally default vbulletin install --not necessarily a bad thing come upgrade time when as I'm sure you know there is template merging hell for more custom forums :P

at least it isn't msprotege where they insist on having the new posts column on the right side of the page.... it makes everything totally crammed and a PITA to navigate on a 1024x768 screen at work!
