From the friendly members in -> this thread "Your P5" <- (http://msg.toprotege.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=11;t=5389), I managed to get a price range for a P5. My dad knew this auto broker so he went to ask, but he decided to stop off at Markham Mazda which was near the broker. Eventually a deal was struck and I apparently bought a '03 P5.
I gave the dealer my color choice -> Midnight Blue.
He tells me he called Mazda Canada, "Sorry there are no new midnight blue P5's being made", so I gave him my other color choices, Black and the "other blue".
He tells me that only the color available was the Laser Blue. He orders the vehicle for me.
Then on a whim, I decide to call 4 other Mazda dealers asking for a Midnight Blue 5spd w/ AC.
Avante -> Gasper : "Yes we have it, but we don't deal [ship cars to/from] with Markham."
Scarboro -> Andrew : "We ordered one from Vancouver just for us [not a customer special order] and it's on it's way".
Morningside -> Naveen : "Yes we have one in stock"
Dave Wood -> Dan : "Yes we have one in stock"
WTF!? My salesperson didn't obviously try to help me out as much as he could. I mean, I did the legwork for him......
Either he'll lose the sale if he can't help me, or he'll have to split the cartage costs with me in order to get my first color choice.
If I decide to buy elsewhere, how much money from a $1000 deposit will I lose?

If you haven't paid for it yet at all...talk to Al Balinsky at Scarboro Mazda...they give a discount also when buying a new car from them for club memebers. If need be use my name as a reference for him. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm pretty sure you'll lose the $1000 deposit if you decide to go elsewhere. The deposit is similar to signing a contract to buy from them. If you don't, then you'll lose the money, that's basically the principle behind the deposit. IF (and that's a big IF) the guy you are dealing with is serious about his business, then he'll do whatever it takes to get you a Midnight blue P5.
BTW, I read threw that thread before and thought that the idea of buying a car from Markham Mazda was a bad one.
From Scooter:

If it were a good dealership, they would have been one of our dealer sponsors. Not buying a car from one of our dealer sponsors is beyond me. Dave Wood, Avante, Westowne, Oakville, and Scarborough are all great dealerships and many members have had good experiences with them. From what I've heard, a fewer number of members have had OK experiences with Markham Mazda.
So keep bugging your dealer to make the change to Midnight P5. You don't want to regret it down the road.

I read the back of the contract and it says something about giving some of the deposit back minus admin fees [I bet that's an arbitrary number] if I don't pick up the car.
I knew about Markham Mazda's "reputation" before shopping around, but I thought they could get me what I wanted. Remember I didn't make the deal, but I was dumb enough to sign the contract before he confirmed the color availability.
The thing is, when he told me he called Mazda Canada and he couldn't get my color choice, I assumed that Midnight Blue wasn't available in ALL of Canada [I know, I'm an ass]. Then I realized that he didn't mention or offer to call other dealers to check. Good thing I did.
Don't worry, I'll hound his ass to get me my color choice or else I'll make an ass out of him in from of his sales manager.
You guys are great. I didn't expect to get responses this fast.

Stick to it. Make sure you get the car you want don't just take what they're trying to push on you. That's BS. Your deposit should be fully refundable .. as it is with Mazdaspeed Protege special orders, etc.

Fight it until you get what you want, it's obvious that the Midnight blue is available at other dealers so they should buy from the other dealer to get it to you. They want to sell you what they have so it doesn't sit around. If they get it from other dealer, they have to buy another car plus they have theirs sitting on their lot. So thats why they are pushing the one they have onto you.
Don't take any car until you get what you want. You're the customer and should always be right and served what you asked for.

Sorry to hear that~ I believe you are #3576 people that have had problem with Markham Mazda.
I remember the day when I went Markham Mazda to shop for a MP3, none of the salesman know what that is. After bunch of BS, they persuade me to put deposit for the MP"5". I was like ^$#%@^#$%. Very bad experience~ and didn't get respected. Anyhow, I got my MP3 from North Toronto Mazda eventually.
I wish you luck, and yeah~ fight for it! It is your money.

isn't there any organization (along with the better business bureau) that you can speak to about this?? i'm sure we can make some sort of publication or get it noticed in a newspaper that this is occuring.. maybe someone from W5?? (yeah, i WOULD take it that far, as far as i'm concerned, if they didn't kill me, i'm going to come back and make their lives a living hell)...
i can't believe that the manager would hang up on you like that Sondra!! sheesh.. something has to be done here.. i'm really getting rubbed the wrong way by some of these dealerships.. i know honda is like that too.. bunch of cocky b@stards!!

Uh, I can't believe you're about to fork over large sums of cash for a car you don't really want (i.e. colour).
Tell the assholes to either get you your car (which is obviously available), or give back your money.

I think you should try to get your money back if you can, and deal with someone else. I bought my laser blue at Scarborough and the service has been great. They gave me everything I asked for and they are really friendly.

Well I finally got it..... Ordered anyways.
A new [not demo] '03 Midnight Blue 5 spd w/ AC.
It should be arriving maybe Tues.
The salesperson worked something out to get it shipped in from another dealer.
Now Markham Mazda has somewhat redeemed themselves.
Thanx for the support all. I'll give more details when it I pick it up.
Anything I should look out for before I drive it off the lot? I mean besides any damage caused by the F1 Car Jockeys.

At the very least look out for damage, Markham Mazda has done it at least once before. Word to he wise, pickup the car during day light.
