Ok, KeeWee here to start our new week with a silly question (well, someone has to do it!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.
Anyway, I have noticed that the tire on the front driver side has a slight rusty colour around the entire outer side of the tire. Not quite on the treads, but pretty damn close. It's only on this one tire, not the others. Any reason for this? Maybe I drove in something...maybe it's a bit low? I checked my tire pressure..seems to be ok...maybe just my paranoia?

....hmmmm.....
After a bit moisture (rain), your rotors form a line layer of rust. This layer is mostly comprised of left over brake pad particles, along with rust forming on the microscopic trenches created by the brake pads and rotors. When you take your car out after a layer building up (while its still moist outside), the stuff will fly all over the place....hence the rusty stuff on the rubber.
I noticed some of that rust stuff on my rims today, just cleaned them off.

Ah, ok...i'll check that out. That could be it. I guess I was just a bit curious to know why it left a nice little ring on the outside of this one particular tire, and not my other ones.
Thanks!

Some tire dressings will leave your tires brown after they have dried and worn off. The only way to stop it is to apply it again. Brand new tires usually won't go brown until you start applying tire foam etc.

Hmmm...does anyone have any suggestions on what product would be good for me to use on my tires to keep them all nice and shiny and new looking?

I think I use Eagle One tire foam, it works pretty nice and lasts quite awhile.

It is a natural part of your car, but if you're into show vs go it leaves you with a residue.
Any tire polish with teflon will give you a clean tire for several weeks. Disk brakes are nortorious for "brake spray" and it comes with the territory. I've cleaned my rims several times in the 2000 kms I've owned the car.

For my tires, i like to use this stuff called "wet n' black". You can grab it at canadian tire. It's a spray on application and holds for a good week or two. It definitely makes your tires look great and enhances the appearance of your rims and the entire car. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've been using Meguiar's Endurance for the tires (lasts for about a week, just reapply to keep the wet look going), and Black Magic Wheel Polish for the rims (from a distance, gives your rims a chrome-like glow if you want to bling-bling...it is Caribana weekend). When I have to clean the inside of the rims because of brake dust buildup and dirt, I just use Meguiar's Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner. Spray on, give it a little scrub, rinse and it's as good as new.
There are some cleaners that leave a brown residue after they wear out, I used to get that problem with my old tires on my old car.
I usually pick up my cleaners at Crappy Tire, but some places may have these items for on sale so look around if you have the time.

I buy the "No Touch" tire foam from Costco. It lasts for quite a while and comes with "One Touch" rim cleaner which works well too. Plus, because I buy it at Costco I have enough to last me for years...
I've tried a few different foams and there doesn't seem to be much difference between them.

If you don't mind having to put a little effort into it I would recommend Turtle wax brand tire gel.
It works amazing and the shine does last for at least 10 days.
Also, no residue spin off on your paint.
I personally love the stuff.

yep, when you use tire cleaners, they sometime discolour the outer layer of the tire. use name brand or expensive tire cleaners and they will not discolour your tires as much. the cheaper brands tend to leave that brownish residue. not to worry though, they won't hurt your tires. I use Black Magic tire foam and it's quite good. Gels may last longer, but are prone to alot of slinging if applied to heavily.
