Sweet!!! Adds a great look to the interior. Does it peel? I painted the interior of my old civic, and I found that it chipped in places!

Thanx everyone first off I did this when I was finshied even I was suprised with the result. The only prep I did was washing the pieces to remove dirt and oil, and I taped some things like the rear power window switches and the carbon fiber treatment on the center panel, The paint i used was motor master exact match auto paint, its great stuff applies very well and dries very quickly after I painted all of the pieces I threw a clear coat on top! So the enitre project took about four days!
Thanx again!

VERY nice...I wish I had the patience to do that. And I wish I could figure out how to take things out without completely destroying parts of my car...

Kee Wee it's as simple as taking your favourite nail polish and going crazy on the interior. If you mess it up you can use your nail polish remover. I would recommend OPI or Nicole's, they come in nice colour-changing colours. Finish with a clear coat - you know the deal....

Ahahaha the gauge frame comes off the same way as the clear cover the frame is attached with clips exactly like the clear piece just remove the balc clips to the frame the same way!

How did you get the shift knob off?

That looks awesome man, feeling like doing mine? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

To take the shitft knob off you have to remove two screws that are on the other side in the front of the shitft knob once those are removed you can start to lift the shift knowb up, it takes i little froce at first, gently slide it up until it stops this is due to the wires for your over drive button, cut the wires and the shift knob will lift right up and out eassy as pie!

cruisinblackp5
July 29th, 2002, 11:59 AM
I was hoping no to cut them but oh well. I couldn't get past the OD button.

ReMuXieD
July 29th, 2002, 11:59 AM
but once you take out the shift knob, u loose OD on the knob...... or is there a way to stick the wires back in?

cruisinblackp5
July 29th, 2002, 12:05 PM
I would assume that if you leave the wires long enough you could just reattach them. If you are changing the knob you could get one that has an OD button or you could mount a button anywhere on the dash or within reach of the driver.

ReMuXieD
July 29th, 2002, 12:18 PM
with the OD shift knobs, u gotta twist the wires from the knob and the wires from the car together. instaed of cutting it, i just pulled it out and the entire wire still there, uncut, but the hole in the knob is way to small to fit fingers or antyhing in to reattach the wires.. but i don't use OD so i got a at knob without one & covered the thing with a shift boot

anyone know the ins and outs of doing this to a leased car???

Protege5 Kid
July 30th, 2002, 10:43 AM
If it's leased and your going to buy it.......do it! If your not going to buy it.........you'll pay some extra fees at the end for sure!

I really want to do this.........don't know how the hell too do it! But if enough people want to experiment with me i'm down!

Septemeber would be a good time...not too hot...not too cold...not as many TPC things going on!

allshow...it depends....I wanted to powder coat the valve cover and strut bar in my car and I got permission from the manager at my dealership to do it.

You should give your dealership a call and see what they say.

Mines leased aswell. Still have it for another 2 years though and I am WAY over my kilometers. Supposed to have not even 60,000 right now and I have like 85,000...So yeah, Im buying it out. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Why would you guys paint all together? I'm cringing at the thought of all you having problems with overspray and dust! It was bad enough doing it myself but you guys will all that paint in a non-windy dust free area are are all gonna get high from the fumes! I had a headache for two days after I painted. Oh well good luck and bye bye to painting the interior as being a unique mod. After all you guys paint your interiors I am going to paint mine to make it look stock again! LOL

I agree with Dave. A painting orgy is not he best thing to do, this is your intrerior were talking about. If messed up it could be permenant, time and paitence should be taken with this along with the nerve to do it. Take your time, especially if you do your dash in front of the passenger seat.

Check out my photo's.

Adam I actually took the dash out in front of the passenger seat. It took some time: two clips and 5 extremely hard to remove screws placed in extremely hard to reach positions.

If someone asks me for help to remove these screws in the dash I am gonna tell them to screw themselves! LOL. Took 4 different tools, one bruised knuckle, 40 sweaty minutes, and so much stress that only a good BJ could relieve - which is priceless unless you are single where you would pay around $30 - $50 on King St W.

:| If any of you are leasing your car, I was told by the manager at my dealership that they wouldnt accept the car back if the interior painting was done. so be carefull as hell cuz the paint is there forever. if you screw up you will likely damage the plastic trying to remove it with solvents. I would suggest a coloured or carbon fiber replica film from a company like foliatec, thats what I am going to do.

Well way to rain on the god dam parade Adam and Dave! You jerks.......all we want to do is get together and screw up our cars together.......but NO...you have to go and put us down!

I don't respect you guys anymore if you
did you interior together or alone!

I was thinking of maybe us "Painting Team"
which you guys are not a part of. ....maybe doing
one peice together, so everyone can get a feel
for how much paint they should appily, what brush strokes
to use shit like that! Not the hole dam interior!

read the first post....it took around 4-days to complete
Dave : I'm not a Dumbass...! I'm just
brown and slow!

But i still have nothing but love for you both!!

4 days is ridiculous.... I did my interior in 1 day. I'm almost positive that Adam did his in 1 day aswell. How it could take you 4 days is beyond my comprehension.

Fat Mike
July 31st, 2002, 09:23 AM
Well I think the reason it took me four days was due to one me being busy and two I really took my time there would be no way i would rush it and do it in one day, to be honest I dont know how you did it in one day?!?!?!?!?!
