Hi all,

I need a quick answer to this question as I am shopping for speakers today.

Okay,

Question #1)

What size are the speakers that are in there right now?

Question #2)

What sizes will fit in the doors and what is needed?

Question #3)

I have tenatively decided on Rockford Fosgates - 6x8 in the front and 5.25's in thae back. Will this work and what do I need to make it work?

I did a search on the subject but I still couldn't find out what the size of the speakers that are in there now. Thanks.

Future Shop has a book on what speakers fit in what car, but don't go to FS, they suck ass. Go to Best Buy, I know that they are owned by the same company, but they don't work on comission, and all around seem to be nicer. They should have the book also.

There is a post somewhere about what speakers we have in the P5, and what will fit.

Okay, just got back from Futureshop (just got a creditcard alright http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ) Anyways I picked up a pair of Rockford Fosgate HPC2206 6 1/2" and Rockford Fosgate HPC2268 6" x 8". So will this fit? This is so confusing. I swear, I have been to every Protege board and it's the same thing. Ah well I guess I'll know real soon.

You can make a lot of things fit by building a baffle. I for one used to have Pioneer 6x8 in the front doors. I then upgraded to Boston Acoutic Pro 6.5 components by building a baffle. I would've recommended that you go with a 6.5 component set up front cause you will have a better midbass and imaging over a 6x8 coaxial. The rear doors are 5.25 - there is no doubt.

I would return the 6x8 you got and run the 6.5 in the front doors and leave the rear doors alone. You will never enjoy the benefits of rear fill in a station wagon unless you are running 5.1 channels for DVDs. Use the money you save on rear fill and upgrade you 6.5 or amp. To make adequate room for your 6.5 in the front doors you can use 3/4'' MDF and build a baffle. If you have a jigsaw and/or router you can build 2 baffles in 40mins. Your sound quality will be better and you will have less resonance between the door skin and your speaker. Plus you larger magnet will clear the inards of the door. On the plastic door skin you will have to trim the plastic rim that outlines the speaker opening cause it will interfer with the cone's movement upon excursion.

Ok, Check it out.

I returned both pairs of speaker and bought Rockford Fosgate FNX2614 6 1/2" for the front and Rockford Fosgate Rockford Fosgate FRC3205 5 1/4" for the rear. I'm guessing this is the better setup. Right? I need some reassurance!

Sorry Dave, front was 6x8 and rear was 6 1/2. I changed mine to 6 1/2 all around. There is a bracket you can get for the front and put 6 1/2.

5 1/4 is the us model P5.
