Bumble G showed me a while ago the JDM version of the P5 has HID lights. I know it's probably pretty expensive as you would need the housings, the ballasts and the lights themselves, but I thought that someone would have imported them by now. This is the only Protege board I'm on. Does anyone have any more information on doing this conversion to JDM HID lights? If I have to, I'm sure I could get the parts imported.

It's the only mod my Wife will allow me to do to her car.

"Hella" I believe thats the company...... I was at Pacific Mall at Steeles and Kennedy. They had a HID conversion kit for $749. I was in a rush, so I don't know the details. I'll take a closer look when I go back.

If it's Mazda and JDM you should probably check with Corksport ( http://www.corksport.com/ ) in California. They seem to have the connections to get anything that Mazda has put out in Japan.

This is the third time I've wrote this message. The board keeps dying on me.

I don't want a conversion kit if it doesn't modify the housings. Just changing the bulbs is just a hack in my opinion. I've seen other cars with just bulb conversion kits and I'd rather spend extra money and get the housings that are made for HID, if they're available.

I looked at the Corksport page and they have a headlight conversion kit for the Sport 20, but the one they show is for the sedan. I'll have to e-mail them to see if they can get the S-Wagon HID headlight conversionfor me.

Thanks.

I also want to do an HID conversion, but would like the proper housings first. Keep us updated DirtyLude....

I met a guy a couple months back down at JRP (he didn't work at JRP - but he was picking up parts for his own store in Wood bridge) He was also driving a P5 and he was having an open house. I posted the address, but i have now lost it and it was on the old board. But (anyway to the point) he said that he was selling the P5 HID conversion lights for the P5. I don't know if he got them from Jrp or what. but i know they are available in Canada. A guy out in Vancouver has them too.

Sorry i was of help too much, but if you can find the store. it's hwy 27 north of Hwy 7. He has them.

hey DirtyLude,

One concern of mine was brought up on another Protege board. Since the light housings in the JDM market are designed for right hand drive then the beam pattern would be opposite to the ones in Left hand drive cars. So the concern is you will blind oncomming drivers.

The left hand beam pattern if you look at it on a wall goes like this --/  were as the right hand drive pattern goes \--

DirtyLude here is some interesting reading on HID conversion. Yea it seems biased but it's got some good info.

And by the way our headlights seem to be ECE spec. Let me see if I can find that thread.

Damn. I forgot about that. That's the same problem with the E-Spec civic lights.

If you find out anything about a left hand drive code HID housing, let me know.
