I have started my new project and I just wanted to start a thread on the process.
I picked up a set of Honda civic 1990-1991 projector headlights with halos from a buddy of mine, they are new out of the boxed never used once. I started to take apart the headlights last night with a heat gun worked very well for me, I had to but some muscle into it though. After 20mins playing around with it I got it to come apart. Sorry no pic for this part, I still have one more headlight to take apart I hope I can get a cam and take a few pic for you guys to see.
My next step that I’ll be starting this weekend would be taking apart my headlights and fitting the projectors and halos in. This step is going to be the hardest part of the projected. That’s if I can get my hands on a set of spare headlights, if not then my car shall be off the road for a few days.
I’ll keep you guys posted
Wish me luck LOL..

You're sticking in halogen bulbs, correct? HIDs would have bad results in ebay halogen-designed projectors

September 17th, 2007, 09:16 PM
you might have to do some work with washers or other ways to adjust the position of it inside the projector so that it doesn't shoot light all over the world :P

over the long weekend i had some time to work on the headlights
i was back in Windsor so i had some where to work.
i used the heat gun to take apart the set of headlights
only 5mins to take the protege headlight apart the civic headlights was the only thing that was giving me a problem 20mins for each light.
Note: when your using the heat gun make sure you run it evenly over the part so that way you don’t end up melting anything, use glove if you want to but I didn’t the gloves just got in the way.
After have all the parts taken out I used a jigsaw to cut the parts that I need from the civic headlight housing.

after taking the headlight housing out from the protege i cut out holes for the projectors and new housing that well be going in. This part was easy it was almost like someone out lined where i should cut its like cut me here.
i also used a jigsaw for this part and a drill

you know, on ebay, there are these nissan projectors that have a actuator for the bi-xenons and they are only like $25. i dont remember shipping, and thats just for the lens, but thats all you need. and cause it can to high beam, its even more perfect

It's just one projector.
luckily with P5 headlamps, no worries about the bi-xenon complication.

I needed something to do as a project. I have this and the retrofit of large LED arrays into P5 taillights to take up my free time.
:) --since I already have a spare P5 taillight to work with, it'll definitely get done before I go to the HID retrofit.

small projectors + massive P5 fog lights = silly
A huge silver shround would fix it during the daytime, but the way it looks lit up at night-- haha
i'd just have to never turn my fogs on again

Yeah, the projectors look weird, I guess compared to the fogs!

OK, here is a question. Do the projectors actually provide better light? Im thinking it would be a much narrower field of light compared to a normal headlight?

It would be much brighter and more evenly distributed, but yeah in a more 'controlled' region
here is a great pic example of OEM HIDs (STi):

I heard retrofitting headlights are illegal here, so is it just as illegal to put in HID bulbs?
would'nt it be better to put in projectors due to their clean cut off, rather than bulbs with their poor cut off?

Yes, it's MUCH better to put in projectors. Much safer, much better for you, the world, etc. Still illegal.. yeah in most places it is.
It might be illegal but it is 'proper'. It's only illegal because the text molded into your headlamp housing says they started life as halogen non-projector headlamps. you'd still be doing yourself a favor by getting projectors.. must I remind you of that beautiful light cutoff demonstrated by the STi? ;)
