My sedan was 1 year old as of the 16th of April and when I have the windows rolled up and the car has been sitting in the sun heating up... I open the doors (especially in the back)
and a nice wiff of the "new car smell" hits me...

Boys and Girls,
We too found that new car smell in the P5 when it was hot out. That is caused by the chemicals they use to build the car interior like plastics, vinyl etc., which emit the odour, commonly known as 'new car smell'. I don't recall where I read it, but supposedly that new car smell on hot days can be toxic if enhaled excessively!!!
So next time it is hot out, and you open the door to the 'new car smell', open the windows or vent it out your ducts....(not that anyone here is going to sit in their car and inhale the smell for hours....but hey, you never know!http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I would hazard a guess that if you live in any kind of highly populated area, (so this includes everyone but Kurt) The air OUTSIDE your car is much more toxic than anything inside your car. So go ahead, and 'HOTBOX' your new car smell!!!

Just to add to the conversation here, i've also heard that the chemicals that generate that smell are toxic. It's important to get rid of that smell quickly as you do not want to be inhaling it for a long period of time. I guess if we grow ears on our chests (ala Barney), we'll know if it was toxic enough, hehe. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
