Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend an afterwork "everyone's gonna be there party" or install my new AEM short ram. So, I'm here to tell you the short ram looks great in bright blue...and the party goers missed me.
It installed easily and looks catchy. I took the car for a short jaunt down the expressway and was surprised at the lack of "sucking sound" or any other noise. I expected at least a whistle, as I recall a friend having a similar short ram in his Civic which whistled. I didn't notice any appreciable power surges but maybe it's only noticeable above like 5000 rpm?
It's not the CAI version so maybe it's all show and no go. In fact, it may not even be worth the money (they're not cheap). I may have been better sticking with the K&N drop in...comments?

If you get that wicked carbon fiber hood from DG Motorsports, it'll have been totally worth it http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
(built-in duct for AEM)

Ummm...thanks Rowan, but no thanks on the carbon fibre hood. I saw some guy's P5 pride and joy with one of those. To me, it looked like he had black primer on his oem hood and it just looked wrong. It must be a generation thing cuz there's nothing wrong with my blue hood. But I gotta ask, what's up with the carbon fibre anyway? Maybe it would look good on a black P5...
I'll save my dinero for one or two other options I'm interested in - the cams or the custom leather interior (or an affordable turbo)

Carbon Fiber is part trendy and part wicked.
Car enthusiest(i can't spell i know!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif buy carbon fiber parts, cause they are light and super strong....that's the quick low down on Carbon Fiber. Plus is looks SICK!

Thanks P5kid. What you said is exactly what I thought, but I wanted to make sure.
My first experience hearing about carbon fibre was back in my motorcycling days. The sport bike enthusiasts would put those CF aftermarket exhausts on their jap sport/crotch rockets. The CF DID look nice. However I believe they had performance gains as well - not just to look pretty.
I just can't see spending $+++$ on a hood that doesn't match the car unless there are more benefits than "looking sweet". Just me. Is there an offset hood scoop that allows the intakes to breathe better?
What I should have done is purchase the CAI version I think...can I modify the short ram, putting it closer to the fender to benefit?
BTW, thanks for the help so far.

Yes, that's what I meant actually ... DG just happens to make carbon fibre pieces, but I mentioned it becaue it has the hood scoop built in and special ducting to fit the AEM intake.

The CF isn't the cool thing about it.. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Ya know, that CF hood looks not too shabby...the trick air scoop is a nice touch. Brings back memories of the Air Induction system on my buddy's '81 Trans Am with hi-power 350 and all the goodies. Well kinda...
However - $1195? Youch! That's a LITTLE hard to justify...unless they could GUARANTEE lotsa extra ponies, but not likely. For a few bucks more, I could drive around in the leather I originally wanted on my new car wish list...

the CF hood with the duct INCLUDES an AEM intake and ducting work. That's why there's a $500 price increase over the regular CF hood. Not worth it IMHO. But if you have money to blow, then go for it.
