Wanted to find out some info on some of the offsets available for these wheels I’m looking at………currently they sit at 17”x7” 5x114.3 +42 offset………they are Motegi Racing wheels and I know that there are a couple guys on this board that have the Motegi wheels like Tax, P5 2 NV, Seadooguy and probably a few others and the car’s lowered. BTW, it's not the MR7's that i'm looking at........

Do any of you get rubbing??

Was there any modifications that you had to do in order to ensure that your rims sit well on the car???

By my calcs, it should be okay given the size and the offset………..thanks!! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Isn't Tax's car dumped though? I don't know since I've never been to a meet,...but I seem to remember seing pic's and it looked like he had dropped it.

jean... read the FITMENT RECIPE (http://msg.toprotege.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=4761).

Unless you start shaving to create a bigger offset, then you're better off getting rims that have proper offsets already.

for the price, you should be able to get something nicer and ligher and a better fit than Motegis...

yeah.. definitely ... lighter being the key word. most 17-inch Motegi wheels are over 20lbs. some of the newer designs weigh less though.

I got my 16" Motegi MR7's at my friends dads place.

It's called: Johnston and Magwood Tire (http://www.johnstonandmagwood.com)

They are at Mavis and Britannia... in Sauga.

Check out the site..

If you go there, ask for Ken and tell him I sent you.

How much did you end up paying for them?

I had the MR4s, they are soooooooooooooo heavy!! I can bring one to the next meet if you want and you can see how heavy they are.

They definitely rubbed on my car...but my car is lowered

People complain about the weight of wheels, but what is considered light and what is considered heavy in size 16, 17, and 18. The bigger the wheel the heavier they will get. I doubt that you can get a 15 lbs 17" wheel! How much difference a few pounds make? Some people weigh over 200 lbs, others 140, and drive the same car, does that really make a difference in how the car drives or handles?

Also, are people looking for looks or you need lighter wheels because you race or autocross.

I have 17" MR7, yes they are heavy but then again I go for looks and they look good on my car.

Please let me know, because I am ignorant.

heavy wheels = bad gas mileage, greater wear on brakes, unbalanced at each of the 4 corners.

why would you pay for something that gives you worse performance than stock? yes, looks do matter, and if you like the looks, then more power to you. however, alot of people don't like to sacrifice performance for looks. others want a combination of both.

I understand, My MR7 are heavy, I haven't seen a real decrease in gas mileage. There is more of a decrease in gas mileage by putting an intake then the weight of the wheels.

Yes there is more wear on brakes, but that also depends on people slaming their brakes and every occasion and steping on gas to be the first out of the line.

I had my 48K service last month and I still have lots of breke pads left according to the dealer. Normal time to replace brake pads are 72K for front and 96K for rear.

So a few extra pound on the wheels will not make you loose performance that much. Stock rims are 16 lbs, my MR7 are like 22 or something, a difference of about 24 lbs overall. That's not a big difference, my hockey and gym bags weigh twice that.

I don't want to start any shit but I am just trying to understand.

so mike (chops), but the fitment recipe posted by rowan, it's looking like if i get 17" x 7" w/ 205/40/17, i should be okay with a +42 offset........that's good.......but then again it says "barely making it"........does that mean rubbing?? rolling the fenders??

i know that the rims are heavy, but then again, a lot of rims i'm looking at aren't that much lighter.......we're talking like 21 lbs for these rims, compared to like 19-20 lbs on average for the other brands........so a total of like 5 pounds and compared to ppl like CarDemon and Kiwee, i think my car will still weigh in a less than them.......hahahaha........

Yes but unsprung weight is worth more than normal weight. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The MP3 RacingHart wheels are ~ 23 lbs which is quite heavy .. so you can compare to those. If you like. Then Motegi is not so far behind.

+42 means it will be a very very tight fit .. and depending on the profile of the tire whether it's a more rounded or square shoulder, you may rub at extreme suspension compression heights. Better off going +45 with 205 tire and being done with it http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

if you get +42 .. and a 205 tire that has a more rounded shoulder then you will be ok .. just depends on how much you want to lower the car and whether it will come back to haunt you later.

not sure which tires have a more rounded profile though
i think pirellis do but can't think of which others at the moment

some motegi style you just can't live without eh? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

nah......not really.......but i know a couple wheels i've been looking at like the motegi rims are +42 offset for the 17" x 7".......been looking for +45, but can't find too many out there.........i was looking at the OZ Racing Superleggera 17" rims and i believe they too were something like +42 for the 17" and +45 for the 18"......... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Superleggera's are 17x7 +45 ... perfect with 205 tire ! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Go call up tireworks / the wheel joint.
Only $420 or so each http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
But like 15 lbs for 17" .. very very nice ... yum.

The dunlop SP FM901 have very rounded shoulders, that's what I use.
