So far, the name I've heard a few times is...
Cheap Thrills
250 Martin Street
Milton, Ontario
905-878-6853
Apparently, they have both new & used rims and tires at wicked prices. Any thoughts on this or any other places in & around TO?

Wheels Direct seem to be helping this club a great deal, you might want to checkwith them first. Good prices and I'm sure the service is good too.

I bought my rims off Andy at Wheel and Tire Zone in Mississauga. I can't say that I would recommend his shop. I was nearly yelled at for expressing my opinion about tire profiles. He's an arrogant mess of a man. I only bought my rims off him cause Richard at Brullen told Andy to hook me up with a good deal. If I could do it all over again I would have bought my rims from Wheels Direct cause those guys have been nothing but honest and hardworking for this club and I gotta support that effort. I did manage to buy my winter tires from Wheels Direct though and have also hooked up two of my non Pro friends with new tires - I'm making up for my mistake.

What I said or did? LOL!
1. Brought in one of my BBS rims after my father, driving my VW, hit a pot hole and cracked the rim; was quoted $150 to have it fixed...fine, no problem (they were $30 cheaper then everywhere else I had checked). Stopped by the store about a week later and noticed my rim in the hallway behind the counter - asked Andy about the status of my repairs (didn't mention that I had seen the rim), he tells me that the rim has been sent out and that the repairs are coming along nicely...oh, and would I like to pay the $250 now or when I pick 'em up. I kindly remind him that he had quoted me $150...he denies this (and subtely implies that I'm lying). I request that he pick up my rim from the hall and give it back, given that he's a crook;
2. Thought I'd give them another chance and went rim/wheel shopping several months back (a year had elapsed since that debacle regarding the rim); asked the wheel 'guru' Andy what it would cost to mount 205/40/17s on brand X of rim - told me flat out that he won't do that, he'll mount 45s but not 40s...I ask him what's the reasoning behind that and he quite abruptly tells me it's 'cause they know what they're doing (and implied that I don't); gives me some stupid analogy about it's like fitting the correct sized shoes on a person...
Wheel guru boy can kiss my ass.

I was with Dave when he bought his rims and got them mounted. When Dave was quietly deciding on either the ROH Adrenalines or the ROTA Subzeros, it seemed like Andy and his mechanics were very impatient. When Dave asked about the wheel weights, they simply said "who cares". I remember Dave pulling out some physics about centrifugal force and weight and those guys had this stumped look on their face. it kinda looked like they were trying to multiply 2 x 2 in their heads, but kept coming up with the answer of 5. they didn't seem to friendly either. I would definitely not get my rims from there.

I tried several times yesterday to reach someone at Cheap Thrills and finally got thru this afternoon. When I asked if he had any great deals on wheel and tire packages for the Protege5, he wouldn't suggest anything but kept telling me to come in, even though I told him I was from out of town. I told him I was looking for a deal and asked him to suggest something he had. He kept telling me to come in, so I hung up. The guy wasn't working hard enough in my opinion. Might as well put a monkey on the phone - I just wanted to hear him suggest a brand, style, and tire. Is that too much to ask?
A local place, Tire Team Centres, has Fast Tango whites (F27A) with Khumo 712s for $1350 + lug nuts + taxes, just topping out over $1600. That price seems ok, not spectacular. The wheels look nice. That price applies to quite a few packages, and they have a "no pay for 6 months" arrangement.
KDawg's buddy Mike in London (Unauthorized Performance) told me yesterday he could get "any" Eagle wheel for ~ $149 + $110 for the Kumho tire. Including the lug nuts + taxes, this comes to just over $1200. Great deal. Only drawback is distance and having to install them myself. That's worth the savings to me. The guys @ Tire Team Centres couldn't touch that deal.
I checked Wheels Direct's website and didn't like the styles I saw but the packages for $1200, taxes in, seem good.
If anyone knows of a better deal, I'm interested, and am flexible in the style (prefer 5 or 6 spoke in polished, white, or bronze). I've got my Mazda alloys up for sale locally and will be ready within the month to buy if they sell.

$1600 is not too great a price for no name wheels.
As far as Eagle Alloys go, I have heard that they have quality issues and your pair may be correctly made but might not be.
Try Ben at Wheels-Direct with your budget and see what they can do. They have probably the widest selection of wheel manufacturers of all the shops in GTA.
I have had some good and some bad experiences with Wheel & Tire Zone. If I don't go for Toyo rubber, I may buy through them again. But they do not have that big a selection of wheel brands that make wheels to fit my car.
Tireworks is another place, and they seem to focus on the European brand tires. Their wheel selection is somewhat limited, but I have never had a bad experience going to their shop.

Good ole CHEAP THRILLS Low overhead, not commercial, no flyer, no polished service guys, but wicked deals and good ole down home off the beaten path layout. Make a trip on the weekend and off the highway stop off at a good ole greasy spoon diner.
Hit off a country market too.
Walk through the Barnyard full of old tires walk into the converted office of a 53' tractor trailer with rims and actual cash prices listed on the wall. Make your pick, the guy disappears into the yard with a few other trailers and booom he appears with 4 boxes with your rims.
Check them too for good rubber. Lots of subsidairy brand names like Sava and other European makes based off Majors like Micheline, Dunlop, Goodyear too. That was my March 2000 trek. My Honda Accord Ghetto 15" 3Star rims were purchased for $480.00 cash.
Do give it a check!
I am planning a trip there with a guy from the board maybe this Saturday at around 1pmish.

guys,
i would like to thnx you guys for the much love for wheelsdirect !! it just shows that you guys appreciate my efforts. thnx ! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif .
now back to the issue. what i would recommend in this case. shop around!! price is one thing anyone can give out. but avalibilty and selection, not to mentino service.!! sometimes we get swamped with buyers in the shop, and usually the phones are really tied up. but with every call, every client that walks in. we serve to the best of our abilities.!! as for you guys, look for me and i will take care of you guys for sure!
dont mind our website, its as old as abe simpson ! we just use the website as a direction for guys comming from outta town to find us ! or for folks that dont kno how to get to our location !
we have specials on rite now ! if its either silvers/chromes/colours 14" or 26" come find us. we are very competitive in pricing and will not let you guys down !
but one thing you must remeber. you gotta keep tabs on us if you placed an order. sometimes the chaos from the phones and pepo walking sorta distracts up with follow ups for wheels that could be arriving or has arrived!!
dont wry the black racing GB still on route ! i havent forgtoten about you guys (rowan/dr.s)
ayways,

Not to step on anybody's toes here, but I'd have to agree with MidnightP5 on this one.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and he shouldn't be flamed for expressing his.
From what I saw, I wasn't too impressed with Wheels Direct either. I'm open to be proven wrong, but the pricing I got was nothing spectacular,...and if the price isn't right, and they're too busy to aknowledge you coming into the store,...or even call you when your rims are ready,.....what type of service is that??? Anyone can pick up a phone and call your order in for you. Does that merit your hard earned cash?
It's the value added that keeps people happy. I got better prices quoted to me from Dave at Steelcase without even having to push,...eventhough Wheels Direct IS "BSA Canada". The guys at Steelcase go out of their way to help customers out and keep them happy. Try calling him and ask a question. If he doesn't know the answer,...he'll search it down and get back to you in no time. And if he doesn't have something you want, he'll damn well try to find it for you.
Just because somebody offers you a group buy doesn't make them deserve all the praise in the world. Especially if the price isn't spectacular. If it, then by all means,...praise all you want. But remember, group buy also means more sales for them = more commission. It's not all done as a favour to you.
Anyway,....again, I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. I'm just playing devil's advocate and giving my 2 cents on this issue.

I wholeheartedly agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - such is the nature of public debate/communication.
However, one should carefully consider the nature of their chagrin with any particluar vendor before airing it out in a forum such as this, as the validity of said statement may be challenged.
Specifically, the complaint in question that I responded to came across as rather unsignificant (interpreted rightly or wrongly by myself) i.e. vendor in question didn't fawn over customer, customer gets upset, customer walks out (once again, my interpretation of the post). I found that rather silly, and questioned the motive of the post - hoping to get more out of it (in my own unique, digging, way http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif ).
As to your pricing issue...[shrugs] I got a great deal on my rims - like anything else, you have to shop around. Publicly slighting a vendor because he doesn't give you rock-bottom pricing is rather silly (in my opinion). Like hondakilla has said before - develop a relationship with the guys behind the counter, don't just expect to walk in through the door and have the staff just give product away.

scooter,
you gotta keep in mind that we are BSA canada, and we do wholesale across canda. if i lower the price down soo low that our purchasers cannot beat it cause its below their cost also hinders our image and name. we must maintain a balance with our purchasers and our clieents! to have a successful business, you must be competitive, and to do that you gotta charge the most dollar for your product. if you call in, for instance, and ask for a wheel i will give you the standard quote (which is respective to the cost of the same wheels or similar wheels at other locations). the lower cost does come with a relationship with your salesperson behind the desk. i think ive bent backwards for you guys and put up hours in research and time into gettin rims from the outskirts of this world to the neighbouhs backyard! and all in all, the group buy was a failure. but htis comes with the territory! not everyone likes the same styles as i do! TO EACH THEIR OWN ! but to just on the phone and call us expecting the rock bottom cost price and instant service is not asking alot ! but when we are swamped with 5 salespersons behind the desk with 6 lines lit up also not to mention the 20 some odd pepo standing in front of you asking "how much does this cost?","what size tyres should i get?", "do you have this?" im only human. i kno the liines are contantly tied up! so its best to talk to us or even me face to face.
btw, its not all about commission! infact i dont get it ! i just want to help develop the name for us! i cant serve you on the phone in under 30 secs, i cant get your prices if your in front of me in 1 min. but i can answer questions if you ask me over a medium such as this one! alot of pepo had bad experiences with lots of places. i kno it only takes one mistake to ruin the fun for everyone! but you must understand. alot of the times the control is outside of our control!
for example, ROWAN and DR.S got wheels. they purcahed the GB pro N1's. they placed a downpayment about 3-4 weeks ago. the wheels are not here. does that mean i did not order them ! in your point of view, prolly yes. in my point of view, i see this: Blackracing took time to gather the shipment and inventory the products so they can bill to us. they sent it out for shipment, shipment comapny has it on hold for a truck that goes that way. truck ends up at customs. customs gotta clear and tag it. once cleared, they call us with a manifest of what they have holding for us. paperwork and more time lost. cleared, we paid and everything is cleared. now ship from customs to us. and we tag and inventory it. then we pass to you. we dont have elves in the back casting wheels for us. we rely on others to pass these wheels down. but with that, we also have toher deals to worry about.! so i would love to wait on you hand and foot! but, i gotta stretch my time and efforts with the other 3 clubs i deal with and walk in and my clients from before.
its busy, bottom line. its the season to stress! for me, this is like gap and christmas, its gonna be nuts! please give me some time. if you are in a rush or need to chk on your products, plz call me! if you cant reach me. call again! or PM me! or come down if you can ! i will call the distributor, shipper, customs and our warehouse to chk on YOUR wheels that YOU purchased.! without you guys i wont have a job. its you guys that pay my chks, not the boss. so make me work for it!
rowan/dr.s plz call me to rush me on those PRO N1's!! i will call tomrrow to see if they are in canada. but plz plz plz. follow up ! im only human!
there, my $0.02
cheers, ben

Hey Ben,
No need to take it personal dude. Although it may seem like it, I'm not directing this as an attack against you or WD. The topic was "Best place to get rims in TO or surrounding".
I gave my opinions as did everyone else.
I understand that you guys get busy. What business doesn't? If they don't,....then like you said, they're not gonna' be in business for long.
I can appreciate any vendor that puts time into organizing group buys for clubs. And eventhough I chose to go another route,...I thank you for making the effort. And I also can appreciate the fact that you guys have a huge selection,....probably one of the larger ones in the GTA.
Your point about being BSA Canada and therefor having to keep your prices up........well I can kinda' understand not wanting to monopolize the market, but we're talking about a pretty big difference in price. I'm too lazy to dig up the old post, but it's in the whells and tires section.
Anyway, I don't want to get into this, because I know that you've done a lot for the club and from what I remember your GB for winter rubbers was VERY good (better than I got at Steelcase),....but the topic was "Best place to get rims in TO or surrounding" and I was answering it in my honest opinion.
No hard feeling intended.
