So i took my MX in for a safety check. They said i only have maybe 4 lines of my defrost that work. Is there ways to fix it?
I've read somewhere that there is a conductive paint you can buy, to fix the dead spots..
Any suggestions?

that's ***king bullshit. most trucks don't even have rear window defrosters. That's a total BS reason for it to fail.
You can get replacement stuff at canadian tire. no idea if it works or not - but worth a shot maybe.

um... yeah I don't think that is a valid reason. you don't even need to have a back window? as long as you have 2 mirrors. Just put a sheet of vinyl over it ;)

It is a valid reason for a safety fail... even if it's a dumb reason.
If the car came equipped with something, it has to work. The reason trucks wont fail because of no rear defrost is because they didn't come equipped with it. I know: dumb.
Same with rear wipers, if it's there, it needs to work even though a similiar car may not even have one!
Try the stuff you can buy at CT. I've never used it but I understand it works...

I wonder, how do they test if it works or not. how did they know "not enough lines" were working, and what is "enough". Doug I see your point - but it's still a bullshit reason for it to fail. I'd take it somewhere else next time, it sounds like you managed to find a place with a bunch of assholes working there.

ya.. i'm starting to get the feeling they are after some coin... I just paid like 1600 bucks to get my car back to normal.. which then the guy offers to buy my car for cheap... and now he wants 1200 to safety my car... not very impressed anymore. I may have my protege a bit longer.. i think i'm gonna find another buyer.

What does he say you need for it to pass safty besides the rear defrost . It would be cheaper for you to get the list ,buy the parts and do everything yourself

ya, i'm going to be doing the changes with my friend..
-Tire sidewalls have cracks, but the tread is good.. they all need to be replaced
-Front pipe and cat have leaks, they need to be patched / replaced
-Front e-brake cable snapped, needs to be replaced
-rear defrost as discussed
-all rotors need to be replaced
-small hole in underbody... he's gotta show me where, cause i swear we looked. Just needs to rivet a cover on.. i'll wait to see the hole.
Thats about it.. his price was 1200 not including the exhaust cause its tre expensive. Thanks to the MOSI crew, i have my rotors.. I just picked up the rear defrost conductive liquid. I still need the e-brake cable (Likely CT) and my friend has some new Winters that we're gonna slap on the car to get past the safety.
Its a 400 dollar car so i didn't expect it to pass with colours. I still have a parts car in my garage that i hope the exhaust is good on.. i'm worried about the cat tho.. So with this work, it looks like the pro will drive at least another week.. I'm starting to re-think selling it... the more i drive it.. LOL.
