I thought I had an earlier thread about the stuff I installed in my trunk last year, but I can't find it. So I'm starting a new one because, well, yesterday I started a whole new enclosure for my hatch. I don't have any pics yet because I was too cold yesterday to take any. But I wanted to start posting already because I'm really pumped about how its going to look. And as a bonus after two years I finally have my sub up and kicking tunes lol.

Might as well tell the whole story though. This is what I started with:

Then my stock radio crapped out, so I put in an oldie but a goodie: Alpine 7995, and a pair of TypeX 6.5's up front, powered by a Phoenix Gold 8.0:4 in the trunk.

That space from the stock radio came in handy for a touchscreen (install thread here: http://www.toprotege.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23029)

Which meant I needed to put my laptop somewhere, and at the same time, finally mount the amp properly and get the sub in the car. I wanted space in the trunk, and access to the spare, so this is what I came up with:
http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/1986/img0843my2.th.jpg (http://img380.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0843my2.jpg)

The base pieces trimmed to fit the sides:

Plywood skin on the false floor:

The results of cutting wood all day in the garage:
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/6130/img0848pd3.th.jpg (http://img377.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0848pd3.jpg)

The sub in place, and the finished product:

The side enclosures were secured at the top through the little vents in the stock plastic side trim. Unfortunately over time this comes loose, and things wobble. I never got around to doing a fibreglass rear half for the sub enclosure, so I never hooked up the sub. Plus things could have fit a little better.

Now, on to version two. I decided to put the sub on the floor, and was going to build a hatch to cover it when I needed to use the trunk. But when I started to put things in place yesterday I realized I couldn't fit the sub, amp, and *something else* all on the floor (nothing on the sides this time) and have any reasonable space left, while looking nice. So I decided that the hatch will be for small things, and if I need to move something large the system can come out for the day.

I'll be posting some pics of the progress on the weekend.

Good luck with that, I'm not big on the car audio stuff, but I can't wait to see what you have in mind. I saw what you had at the first Central meet this year, looked really good and I love the interior, looks so soft. *lol*

well done! always great seeing someone put actual effort into their audio setups instead of a "drop in" system.
is your sub enclosed by free air setup? can't tell from the pics.

The original system was supposed to be MDF on the front, with fibreglass sealing the rear and moulded to the contour of the stock plastic piece. Never finished it off though. The new one is a small (0.8 cu ft) box fit into the spare wheel well. You can see it in the pic below, the small square around the sub indicates where the box is, and the large brown surface is the top panel. There will be 2x4s around the edge of this panel to support and secure it on the trunk floor, and then there will be a trim panel across the top surface but under the amp (I can't find a good way to show what I want the trim panel to be in this program - the panel will not be flat!).

should look pimp when complete, im switching up my setup too, i built a monster box last summer but i am unhappy with it, going to go something similar to yours only with dual 12's instead but still taking advantage of the spare tire place as some extra usable airspace for the subs.
