Is there an advantage to replacing my stock intake with a higher performance intake (ie Reactive, etc...)??
Any thoughts on which one to go with?? Costs?? What about the one Mazda offers??
Any info would be appreciated!! I'm trying to allow my new Protege to live up to its capabilities...

Their are a few options.....the best route is to get an intake beause it allows the cars engine to breath better.
You have two options
Short Ram: Reactive (80 - 120$http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, AEM(300 - 350 i think)
OR
Cold Air Intake(CAI): Ingien(300 - 350)
Their are a full mix of people that swear to differnt intake in this club, i personally like the CAI and Dave's AEM, looks really good! But in all fairness they all do kind of the same thing.....so the Reactive one is the best bang for the buck for sure!
YOu can even get A-spec to make you a custom Intake for 100$

What are the differences in both...Short Ram and Cold Air Intake (I'm new at this)?? Are they both physically the same too??

the cold air is longer and goes into a corner of the car, away from the engine, so the air that its breathing in is cooler, which means less work on the engine... the short ram is basically short and sits besides the engine.... but i personally will recommend a short because for the p5, the short ram filter sits infront of the engine, so when you're car is moving, the air comes from under and in front then flows to the back.... that means the heat inside the engine follows this flow.. so basically the short ram is getting cold air.... unless ur in traffic or parked. CIA is useless... unless the filter sits behind the engine

and one more thing, the AEM short for manual tranny goes down to the bottom right, beside the tranny and fogs, so its basically cold air going in......
