View Full Version : License plate shield thingy

Hi Everyone...KeeWee here, prepared to ask one of my silly questions...
So, here I am, thinking I'd try to make my ride cool (air freshner wasn't cutting it) and put some smoke coloured license plate shields on my car. But for the life of me, I cannot get it to fit on. I've figured out the bolts on it already aren't long enough to go through and hold it on. Also, is it me, or is the shield itself a millimetre or two shorter than the plate itself? Compared to other vehicles it seems that Mazda has some sort of black plastic frame that the license plate sits on (on the rear)?
This is all new to me, and was wondering if someone could help alleviate my confusion? I've already asked a few people to try and put it on for me, and they are just as confused as to why it refuses to fit.

Muchos Gracias!
oh, by the way, the shields are the ones that bubble out a bit..not the flat ones...

try using slightly longer bolts....
1/4 or 3/8 longer than stock
go to canadian tire and show the guy your stock bolt and ask them for the same size bolt (size and pitch) (it will be a metric thred) but 3/8's longer than before

I've just bolted my top two holes.......stays in place perfectly.
You could also use twist ties.....black of course so nobody knows there twist ties there!

Thanks for the reply!
I actually did try Cdn Tire...so I was just curious to see if there was anything else...I guess Cdn Tire is the way. Last time I was there, they dropped my original bolt, and had to give me one that didn't quite match...sorry, i'm anal that way. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
anyways, any ideas about why the shield is smaller than the plate? or should I just let it "sit" on the plate and that black frame and not care that's it not a snug fit?

I don't think the plate was ment to sit inside the cover....i think the cover was just ment to sit ontop of the licence.....i wouldn't worry to much....just injoy!
My plate cover sit on the plate itself

I think it's more of what can you do to get yourself into trouble. It's always more fun.

Hey KEE WEE, You must be from the east, central, or farm side, cause that is the dumbest question I have seen so far! KEE WEE what is the highest level of education you have accomplished?
Any all these fools didn't even answer you question properly (figures none of them are WESTSIDE). I had the same problem with my bubbled plate (if I can even say it was a problem). The cover is smaller - you are not absolutely dumb. Just take a pair of pliers (uh, that's a tool that has handles that you squeeze and the other end has a set of jaws the close) and start crimping the edges on your plates. For mine just doing 3mm on each side was enough to make the shield cover the plate and actually sit inside. Then use your stock bolts at the top and some zip-ties at the bottom to hold the peices together.
LOL KEE WEE, I'm joking about being an ass! Really I am not but you are a rookie on this board and you can't get everything to easy! Nice to have you on board and feel free to ask any question cause it will help other members that are just as retarded as you! LOL http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Candice when you posted your question about the plate thing I had no idea that you were actually a girl! Sorry, otherwise I would not have been as rough as I was. At first I was thinking what kinda Man can't install a plate frame?
After reading some other threads I realized that you being called Ms. Candice was not a joke but you were actually a girl. Now I understand why you couldn't figure out the plate thing - cause you're a girl.
I don't mean to be insulting your sex, it's just that you girls should stick to cooking and housekeeping instead of hanging out in the garage. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Candice,
Don't take Dave serious....he is only TRYING to be funny. Trust me....he'll follow up with a remark about me, but I know it to be only in humour.

No offense taken, I can joke like the rest of 'em. No idea I was a girl, huh? Is that a hint to post up my picture? Guess the name Candice didn't quite click with you the first time, eh?
Hmm..as for the comments about staying in the kitchen and the such - I'd do WAY more damage in a kitchen and house than in a garage. Believe me, cooking ain't my forte and never will. And as for cleaning? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/baaa.gif You're a funny one...I almost took that seriously....Any more comments like that and you might get a swift kick in the ol' family jewel depository, buddy.....

Kee Wee. I'm going to warn you..... Unless you are on the pill don't even plan of touching my 'jewels' (with feet, hands, or whatever else) cause my boyz are so potent that you might find yourself pregnant. There was one case when a girl just looked at my crotch and had my triplets in only 4 months! Watch yourself!
