Check ProBoy's document. Only 2 lights are required, not counting high-mounted or spoiler lights so you can run without it.

Right now as far as I know it's okay up here. That third lightor "cyclops" (?) is mandated in some southern states.

Up here itactually doesn't count as a brake light for safety / DOT purposes.

actually, you need to legally have a third brake lite according to the HTA...ill try and find they exact passage

This is the only passage I can find right now (and it says you only need ONE brake lite...)

62. (1) When on a highway at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall carry three lighted lamps in a conspicuous position, one on each side of the front of the vehicle which shall display a white or amber light only, and one on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red light only.

However, I beleive in the DRIVERS HAND BOOK, it says you need a third higmounted brake lite....this came into effect after 1988 i beleive...

The lense has nothing to do with it... its just the light that it emits that matters.

Kdawg, that quote doesn't have anything to do with brake lights.

Thedeck mounted brake light isn't a brake light by definition. Itis a safety feature and was mandated years ago ib the states by a politician for saferroads and the like. It soon followed up here and mostcars come with it now anyway.

If you have tail lights, assuming you do, one can be burned out.

But if both of your tail lights are burned out or not working, and you have the third light thatworks, that one doesn't count. You are still eligable for the $110 donation to the province.

When you have your lights on, your tails still go on, but your tail lights have to become brighter or a second set of lights have to become activated in order to show a marked decrease in speed or sudden deceleration.

So, that third light is there, but it doesnt count.

That part of the HTA says simply, you need two headlights in white or amber to the front for the times and distance stated as well as a red or amber to the rear.
