Well this is probley gettin old but,

Something else is wrong.

Noticed today that there was oily fluid on the undserside of the car and on the floor.Tranny. Its not broken, but an axle seal and the shift linkage seal are shot.

So its time to upgrade. Haven't really heard of much, just things like 323 gears and such. I'm lookin for stronger gears and a taller final drive, and stronger axles are a must.

So whats out there?

The 323 gears, AFAIK still have not been proven to be any stronger. Besides, the main problems are not the gears, it's the shift forks and selector rods. I wouldn't waste time or money on the 323 gears imho. I've been playing around with the spare tranny I have for a while now and it's helped my knowledge grow considerbly. I've even taken a spare gear set and jammed a pry bar into them and then hit the locking nut on top with an impact repeatedly just for fun and the gears stood up to it without issue!! I did manage to chip an extremely small piece off one tooth after about 30 mins... Yes I do crazy things when bored :p

edit: I'm going to post pics of the teeny tiny chip when I get around to taking the pics of the magnet as well.

Replace the seals and forget about it. There is nothing available that's worth investing into at this point.

Well I got under her agian today and I don't think that it is a driveaxle seal. If it was that seal wouldn't it be sprayed above the seal aswell? Cause its not.

Another possible thing is brake fuild from when I bled the clutch.

I cleaned the oil off of everything and are going to wait for another nice day to take it for a spin and see if the oil comes back.

Make sure you're tranny fluid is topped up before you take it for a spin. Last thing you want is to do more damage because of low fluid levels!

^ Following that comment, if when you check the fluid level you find that it is low, some has probably leaked out.

You should be able to tell the diff between tranny fluid and brake fluid. I can, but I have a tendancy to get things on me and/or spill them all over the place when working on cars (only when it comes to brake, engine oil, tranny and coolant fluids. haha)

I could tell the smell or feel the texture of tranny fluid from miles away. Once you've got some 'experience', you never forget tranny fluid...that shit smells so rancid. Getting sick just thinking about it.

SOOOO true! I felt like my nostrals were burning after a few hrs of working with that smell!! My garage still reeks of it because I have a tranny, and a half of one, sitting in there still :p

See I put just lucas in it and it looks almost the same as brake fluid. I'm thinking of dropping out the lucas and puttin in some Castrol syntec gear oil cause at least it would be easier to tell the 2 apart.

Yeah don't let Moss near your floor either... in my case he managed to leave oil and coolant on the gorund, but managed to keep the tranny fluid under control! :p

I keep a 20lb bag of absorb-all in my garage just for those occassions.

The fluid level in the tranny is fine, maybe even to much. That lucas is think and it probley was sticking to shit when I filled it up. When I opened the plug some oil stared to dribble out. But this also could be normal.

normal yo.

You can't over fill the tranny, that's why the fill plug is angled the way it is.

Well this is put on hold until I actually break something.

The dummy VSS sensor was leaking the oil. Replaced the o-ring and all is good.
