December 4th, 2006, 09:01 AM
As you may or may not know, CrazyCaker has decided to step down from the Membership Officer & Treasurer role. As such, the position has opened up and we are looking for nominations for a new candidate to fill it. Since the winter is upon us, this will be the perfect time to fill the role.
Responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):
* Keeping records of all of the club's fiscal activities through the club bank account as well as the paypal account (with the help of the Officers)
* Co-sign on cheques as required (need two signatures for any cheque)
* Enter sold memberships into online Database (with the help of the officers)
* Spear-head membership drives each year
* Attend regular Officer Meetings
* Helping to organize club events, promotions, etc. wherever required as an Officer
* Welcoming new members to the club
* Moderating the board as required
The chosen candidate MUST be dedicated to this role. If you are only looking for a title, but don't want any of the responsibilities, you need not apply. There have been members in the past that have taken on officer roles and stepped down from them shortly thereafter. This is not something we like to see. We are looking for candidates that plan on improving this club, and growing with it.
This role may sound like it is very extensive, but we have many systems in place already so that it will be a smooth transition for the the successful candidate, and I assure you that it is not as much work as it may appear to be. If any of the candidates have any questions about the role, please do not hesitate to ask me and I will explain further.
How this will work
* Anyone is free to nominate a candidate for this position
* To nominate someone, please post their name in this thread and feel free to give a reason if you want (not required)
* Self nominations are preferred as they show a definite leadership quality. Do not be shy.
* Succesfull candidates MUST live within the Greater Toronto Area
* Succesfull candidates MUST have been an ACTIVE member of TOProtege for a MINIMUM of 1 year with an outstanding reputation / history on the board
* Nominated candidates should reply in this thread to accept or decline the NOMINATION (again, candidates are also welcome to make any notes they wish regarding the nomination)
* Members are free to post questions RELATED TO THIS POSITION for any of the nominated candidates
* Candidates should reply to the questions in this thread
* Nominations will close Dec. 15th
* At this point the Officers will take into consideration everything brought up in the thread and will go to vote on the Nominated candidates
* The new Membership Officer / Treasurer will be posted Dec. 20th or sooner
***** ANY IRRELEVANT POSTS OR THREADCRAPPING WILL BE DELETED FROM THIS THREAD WITHOUT NOTICE ******
***** Please do not be intimidated by this position. All of the Officers are here to make sure it is a smooth transition for the chosen candidate. This is a very important role to the club, but it is not as much work as it may sound. *****

Do you have to drive a Protege?

I should have given a little more explanation on this. Many of you know that CrazyCaker is a fairly new proud Daddy. He's got a lot on his plate right now with work and fatherhood, and we can all understand why he does not feel he has the time to continue on with this role. He has been most helpful in this position, and has agreed to stay on to help out the new candidate to get through any learning curve.
Our thanks to you Joe for all of your help in this role. And if you have any comments you would like to add, please feel free to post them in here.

Do you have to drive a Protege?
I would say that it is not required to Drive a Protege. BUT, I emphasize the point that succesful candidates MUST be ACTIVE members of the club and have been so for AT LEAST one full year.
This is something that would be more commone with people that actually drive a Protege, but I know there are rare exceptions such as active members that have sold their Protege but are still an active part of this club, etc.
When it comes down to it, as long as you are dedicated to the role, and meet all of the requirements, it does not matter if you drive a Protege, so long as you have been, and WILL BE dedicated to this role. Since it's the Toronto Protege Club, it would be nice to see the officers owning Proteges, but we understand that there are certain exceptions.

Likely not many knew about my stepping down, other then the officers, as I had not made it public.
Between family life, work, and running Xcelerated Concepts as a sole proprietor, it has been extremely time consuming over the past few months. With the arrival of my son this past summer, and the rapid growth of Xcelerated Concepts, free time has become a thing I find hard to have.
This club has evolved tremendously over the past 2 years that I was in the Treasurer position, and I'm glad that I was able to be a part it! I will continue to be an active part of TOP, and will still assist behind the scenes where I can.
If anyone has any questions or would like more details about this position please feel free to contact me. I will also be assisting with getting my replacement all setup and making sure they are comfortable with all aspects of this position.
As Darren mentioned, please only consider this position if you are serious about it. There is a lot of inital paper work involved in order to get the bank acct access, debit card, and cheques transferred to the new person. We don't want to be doing this every few months!

I nominate myself (reason) (http://www.toprotege.com/forums/showthread.php?p=324970#post324970)
(I hope I'm not tripping anyone out with my posts in this thread...I'm not flopping - just want what's best for the club.)

I also would like to extend a nomination to Romeo_Mp5 as I know that he was very interested in this position as well. I'm sure he'll post after work anyway, but I figured he might be too shy to nominate himself, eventhough he wants it.

Moss are you a bondable person? If so, why?I've been around here for years and have bought/sold numerous items from people in the club let alone many others all over the world. I run a company with two other club members that are heavily into Mazda's - in short, I ain't goin' anywhere and I'm as trustworthy as they come. Please note:
I will also be conducting a CPIC background check on all nominees on TOP's behalf. ;)Bring it on! haha

Just to clarify guys...it's not meant to be a vote. This thread is for nominations. If you agree with a nomination, then that's fine, you can post that you agree (which I'm sure is what most of you were intending with your posts). But at this stage, this is just a thread to nominate candidates for the position. Please see the first post if you have any questions.

Whoever is up for this, I would want them to go through something like this (http://www.backcheck.net/home.htm?gclid=CJSLvMbr-YgCFSMkWAodODwtxQ) first ;)
(references, police clearance, credit bureau inquiry, education verification - costs $300)

Joe mentioned that he can do a background check on the successful candidate. However, I should note that there are ALWAYS 2 signatures required when withdrawing money out of the club bank account (cheques or whatever). This is something that we intentionally setup at the bank, so one person could not change anything on the account, withdraw any cash, or anything like that on their own. There always needs to be a co-signer. And the only people with access to the account are the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and the Sponsorship Officer.

And do they all have background checks done on them too? :p

All kidding aside, glad to see some seriousness there.

Yes, I was being honest (but joking at the time). I can do a FREE background check on anyone. I hope that the successful candidate does not require me doing this though :p

I would like to take this opportunity to nominate myself for the position of Membership Officer / Treasurer.
I have been an active member with Toprotege since 2002 and am eager to contribute to the continued growth of this community. I could only imagine how difficult it will be for the officers to select the right candidate for this position, as this club has a lot of responsible leaders. Should I be selected, I will definitely be dedicated to this position and will give my 100% to do whatever it takes to continue with the success of Toprotege. I thank you all in advance for your consideration and welcome any questions that you may have.

^ Romeo_MP5, are you familier with banking stuff? Familier with paypal? Using programs and keeping track of all donating members of TOprotege?

Very good question Spyder...
I minored in Finance when I was in university and in terms of banking stuff, could you be a little more specific? I do manage my own finances if that's what you're asking. I make deposits and withdrawals fairly frequently with my own branch.
I am also familiar with Paypal as I use it to purchase and sell on sites like Ebay.
In terms of programs that toprotege uses.. I haven't had a chance to ask any of the officers what specific programs are used, but I am however confident that I will have no problems learning the programs, should it be a program that I am not quite familiar with.
I did have the opportunity to speak with Scooter, before nominating myself, and from his details regarding what is involved in this position, I have every bit of confidence in myself that I am a suitable candidate, and am capable and experienced to take on this role. Thank you for your concern in my experiences. Don't worry Spyder, your money will be in good hands. :)

Nothing much has happened with these nomination threads, so since there hasnt been much activity of late, I'm going to close them early. Let's say by Midnight tonight. Then we will announce the new Officers on Monday Dec. 18th.

to add to this...same thing I posted in the Farmside thread.
"Nothing is automatic. The Officers need to discuss each candidate and make a decision together. If we don't feel a candidate is suited for the role, or if we feel we can do without filling a position right away, then we won't just give the role to somebody because they were the only one to be nominated."
