ok start laughing at me now...
This thing has been bothering me, if i get a remote starter and remote start it, do I need the keys in the ignition to drive? Will the ignition still be in the off position? Or do you have to turn off the car with the remote and then restart it with the key? I dont get how the whole thing works.....
ok stop laughing now.

hehe.
I have the CompuStar alarm and remote starter on my now.
you do need the key's to drive away. Once you get in the car, put the key in the ignition and then just drive away.
If you were to try and drive away without the key's, once you press on the brake pedal, or realese the hand brake, the engine would shut down. then you'd have to start the car with the key.
This is how the compustar system works.
I hope this helps you.

Just to add one more technical detail, once you insert the key, you must turn it to the on position (two notches forward of course). In other words, if you just insert the key and hit the brake or try to put it in gear, she shuts off.
And BTW, it wasn't a dumb question. These things are pretty intricate with all the electronic "checks" in place. And it's been a great winter to have one!

The Canadian tire guy tried to sell me one back in July, but I was reluctant to invest in it. I thought who cares, its a just a button on a remote. But now when I have to sit for 10mins in the car and wait while the thing warms up...the face of the guy flashes before my eyes.

Let me throw in a bit of a suggestion
I find that "Compustar" alarms are not unaffordible like they were in the past. With Compustar you get a Remote start and a pager alarm
So if your planning on getting a Car Starter i'd go with a Compustar one that way you get a great alarm too!

I got autostart starter (only starter no alarm) installed by lockdown for about 40% of the price of compustar combo.
It works very far but its not a two way.
I did not want to spend 500 bucks for a computstar which is what it came out to be with installation.
I really like this one and the range is sufficient. Talk to Jeff he should still have them.
