i did a search on the board and i couldn't find anything on the AEM short-ram intake. i see that a lot of you have the Ractive intake, how does that perform? i was thinking of the AEM short ram intake, does anyone have any experience with this? i think i should be able to get it for $300 canadian. i want to get something reliable and sturdy. i am also considering the injen cai and the hks megaflow but i hear that some people have encountered problems with the injen. oh, does the AEM intake for the 2.0L fit both auto and manual transmissions? same model #s right?

well, if anyone could gimme some input i'd greatly appreciate it. thx.

I believe the AEM for the auto is the same as the 1.8 not the 2.0 manual.

I think that it has to do with the placement and thh fiting. Don't quote me because I havn't seen both versions but if you try I do beleive ther is a space issue with the autos?

I have just ordered an AEM short ram from www.worksmotorsport.com. Their price recently jumped to $198 US but if you tell them you saw it recently for $159 US, you might get lucky like I did.
There are separate part #'s for manual vs auto and there are colour choices as well.
Good luck, markque

thx for the replies...

how about you guys with the the Ractive intakes, how do u like'em?  i think i read somewhere that someone experienced some rattles with the ractive intake, is that common? is the ractive a cai or short ram?  also, do any of you know anything about the hks megaflow intake for the protege?  is there one for the 2.0L?

thx.

I have the HKS super mega flow kit on my G2, one designed for 92-95 Civic Si's but custom-fitted. It requires cutting the intake pipe to fit. HKS units are great but quite pricey and one disadvantage also is that, the filter elements aren't washable. You have to replace the element every 40k. I would assume these units can also be fitted on the P5's and G3's.

well i found out from some dudes on the protegeclub board that the AEM shortram for the auto tranny doesn't fit too well...in fact, some of the hate it. i guess i won't be getting an AEM...
i heard that the Ractive intake wasn't that great either...what do u guys thing about it? it is a short ram correct? i heard about rattles and some other problems have occured in other people's experiences....plus, does it fit on an auto?
the injen CAI is the most expensive intake for our cars and i don't really want to spend so much plus the bypass valve costs quite a bit as well.
it looks like my last resort is the HKS super megaflow...unless i hear some good things about the Ractive. the megaflow isn't exactly an intake...more like a filter right? does anybody got pics of it installed? it looks like im in a hole right now, someone please help!

I've got an AEM for auto and it fits well, but the problem is... the short ram for auto is really damn short, lol... but on the other hand, the short for stick is just as long (in my opinion) as cold air, it goes all the down to the bottom right corner, really worth the $$. I made a mistake and got the intake for the manual tranny the 1st time and the filter wouldn't fit because the auto transmission was in the way, it sticks out a little. but the auto intake fits fine. but i've seen a lot of people with electrical tape on theirs for some reason (on the manual ones)...

anyways, make sure you get the rite one... i think the auto one is soemthing - 480 (part number) and the manual is something - 481

These intakes (short/long cool brand vs. basement brand) all have one huge flaw (that I've seen). There is little direct induction, aka ram-tunnel/forced air. Save some bucks... decide on which type you want, and forego the pretty polish and oversize sticker on the tube (why pay to advertize someone else's under-inspired engineering feat?). Some simple polishing of the intake and good fitting gets you what you want. I have purchased a no-name brand short-ram for $115, and I'll take time to see if it gets me what I want.

No matter if you're into show or go, when you put some of your own time into its design and easthetics, you'll feel better about it.

If you want a shiny pipe... fo to Crappy Tire and buy a $4 can of rubbing compound and bring that badboy up to mirror finish in less than an hour!!! >http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

hey 130...I have a ractive superflow, and all I can say is this.  The difference in HP gains between a Ractive vs. AEM vs. Injen I don't think are too much different, however the price sure is!  I got my intake from Avante for around $120 (I think?).  I am REALLY glad I decided to put an intake on my car, as it does give you a little more zoom-zoom and it sounds sweet, but the only thing you have to watch with ractive is installation.  As with most things in life, you get what you pay for, and ractive is the "Zellers" of intakes.  I had to "message" my intake to get it to fit right, and I still end up hitting the brake master cylinder the odd time.  I doubt you would run into the problems I had with AEM or Injen, but you never know?

Ed and Mark will tell you Injen is worth the $$$ and Dave will tell you AEM all the way but at the end of the day it is all about budget.  If I had the $$$ I would have bought the Injen (cause technically it is the best) , but for what I would have paid for an Injen I was able to get a ractive superflow, headlights, fogs, signals, and a good start on my tint job...so the questions you have to ask, and what you have to do to make these kinds of decisions is make a budget.  Figure out what you want to do with your car, and how much money you have to do it with, and I can almost promise the decision will be made for you!

As I have said many times before, the competition in aftermarket parts is hot, and companies are doing any and everything they can to pump out parts that will cost them less (thus, you get what you pay for) , so they can lower prices, increase market share and sell in volume, while hoping the customers will be loyal to their brand of products and win the hearts of their target market, but in the end it is all about the bling!

I have the Injen and I am very happy. I find that from people I've talked to that it gives more power at the higher RPM's than the other brands.

Ram air effect-I took my fog lights out (there useless anyway) and replaced them with grill....now the filter gets force fed air through the fog light opening.
