Does anyone know how the speed up the steering ratio on 3rd gen cars . I find the current ratio to slow for winter driving . I like to drive the back road sliding the corners . I can't correct fast enough . My 92 steering was much faster . any ideas

I was wondering about this last year.. I think the only way to do it is completely replace the rack & pinion with different gear ratios to give fewer turns lock-to-lock. 2 full turns lock-to-lock would be great but not sure it's worth the effort.

There are quick steering racks for Subaru .. never heard of anything for Mazda yet.

This topic caught my eye as I never really delved into it.
How does my steering wheel spinner measure up?
It takes awhile to get used to as you may want to turn on a dime and ride up a curb doing so. But I must admit that it may not promote proper driving and steering technique. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to find a quicker ratio box from another car (like the subaru's Rowan mentions) and retro fit it to work with our steering gear.

Mazdaspeed rack should bolt in , and has a faster ratio.

My Mazdaspeed has a faster ratio than the MP3 rack?

Or do you mean the racing mazdaspeed rack?
