View Full Version : Staying NA...

I've decided to stay NA (maybe some Nitro for fun) and forget about the turbo. I realize that I don't have the money to spend to do the Turbo that I want. Question is... besides the ECU what mechanical differences are there between the JDM Pro and ours.
Intake Manifold
High Compression piston
Cam shafts
Anything else?
Lastly - no one has cracked our ECU yet right?

Euro has higher than us as well. And more easily available.
That's one reason that Ford doesn't want to bring the Focus RS edition over to North America.
Just buy a big tank and set it up at your house, and get some Elf trucks to come by and fill it up with racing fuel once in a while http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
The pinouts of our ECU are posted on ProtegeMP3.com I think.. that is at least one step to "fixing" it.
I think maybe the block of the Japanese version of our engine is different as well. But that doesn't translate into a significant difference for tuning as far as I know...

well like i said that is my route that i will be going... but with a little boost as well. You can run boost on high comp but very very little and u must be very precise in your tuning or else it just wont work http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
but either way i am selling the pistons and i think N/A has more respect than boost. (REMEMBER THIS IS JUST AN OPINION!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Every time they interview all-motor drag racers in magazines they seem very pleased with themselves...

Dave...seriously consider these....I have seen them in action myself.

i have had a number of email conversations with these guys and they work with our P5s.
If you want to purchase them....I'll purchase with you.

Jason: I don't see our engine listed on the ordering page...Are these spacers available for the P5?
How are is to mount these spacers etc? sounds like we have to take the engine apart...Anyhow, maybe we should setup a group buy! I'm interested as long as it won't cost an arm and leg to install them...
While I'm doing the spacers, what other cheap mods can I do to increase performance?

the spacers where originally designed for the MX3, 626, and Probe....but we share the same engine! So.....they will work on our car. The probe guys swear by these...
visit the website, they have the prices.

oopss...spelling errors...
What I meant was: How much does it cost to mount the spacers? Is it do it your self kinda deal?

I aggree that NA is very respectable but not as flexible as boost. It is pretty hard to have a street driven NA beast that is practical whereas a car with big boost can be controlled a little easier! And if you look at most competitive NA cars at the track it looks like they just took a shell of a car and threw in a crazy engine....not very impressive visually!
Navy,
If you can wait until spring I will have chips for our cars (I discussed this a month or two ago) It will require sautering (sp) a socket but will allow you to use more then one chip. You know me....I don't talk BS....I WILL have it and it WILL be dyno proven!

Not all continents use the same scale to rate octane levels.
You wont see an octane leve in japan that is lower than 100, but their 100 octane isn't equal to the 100 octane you can get for your race car here.
It's closer to 89 or 90 like we're used to.
Same for europe. It's a different scale.

I beleive we can pull 200 WHP with our cars as long as we have the right products to work with. If you really want to go all out i suggest bore out your block get better cams, forge your pistons, real header set up with a straight pipe. but the most important thing that will tie all those together will be a stand alone engine managment system. In other words your looking at pretty much a new car and youll be hitting much more then 200 WHP. Our cars haven't been out long enough for the aftermarket world to really show us some real products. Until then just stick with the basics or get a turbo. just my .02 cents

Our rods and pistons are rated to handle up to 225 WHP. We have a create engine to work with, its trying to get tackle the ECU that is at the heart of going NA or FI.
