View Full Version : +++Q&A's on Rice and Mods on our cars+++

On another part of the board there is a discussion on blue lights for your car, say turn signals and the like.

It is still active and a good discussion is going.

Since I responded to a few of the ideas, I have received a few PM's regarding legalities and interpretations on lights and other mods for our cars that may or may not get you a ticket from your local po-po.

I have been asked before about giving advice and insight but wanted to wait until I got to know the board better.

So rather than respond to each PM and repeat everything over and over, I have received permission from one of the boards officers to make a sticky post about this kind of stuff based on actual practised proof.

I won't get into specific legal terms and sections of the HTA, but will relay in layman's terms my insight.

There is a reason why I am doing this. I have been part of other boards where the membership is young, immature, and frankly a pain in the ass.

With this board, so far everyone I have met and talked with are stand-up people. Also, our cars are fairly new additions to the market, and frankly not the cheapest either. So if you own a recent Protege or Protege5, it means you sank some cash into the deal.

Also this way our members will be seen professional and represent the board and club in a respectful and clean manner. Not seen as hopped-up-rice-racers with questionable cars.

What can you do?

Well over the next few days, post here your questions about mods and rice for our cars, or PM me.

I will compile a post specifically dealing with coloured lights, headlights, turn signals, tail lights, flashing lights, exhausts, and also banners on your windsheild.

Ther are whole lot of other things I could do, but really not alot of it deals with P's and p5's as there is not a lot of aftermarket mods available at the moment.

Cheers

How will you be able to answer these questions? you a lawyer or a cop? or are you just going to research it?

ProBoy is a police officer. I think its great that he wants to help us out with "legality" car mod issues.

ProBoy

Which one will you have more of an issue with.

Either way I am a car entusiest who happens to have a P5.

The research has already been done. I am just offering it publicly.

I would like to know the legalities behind ride hight on a car, the rules governing it and the actual hight restrictions of a car. Mine is pretty low and i am just waiting to get in trouble, i need some ammo.

Thanks,
Ed

I will not adress my career publicly on the forum.

Just to let you know I am not a traffic guy, but I know alot in that area. I like drug-dealers and gun-runners, not rice-rockets.

If we meet in person I will offer more.

Ride height....will add that one and tint issues.

Sounds good to me proboy...totally respect that...can i get a clarification on underbody neons? I want to put blue underbody neon on my car but i dunno if its legal while moving and if so will legalities change when i cross borders into different regions (i.e. York into Toronto, Toronto into Peel region, etc)

And can you put M3 mirrors on your car if it has blue turn signal lights in it...keeping in mind we have sidemarkers as well and the turn signals in the headlights?

Thanks for the info in advance

In all honesty, I'd like to know out of all the things you'll be covering, what is actually enforced, and to the extent it is enforced. Is that possible?

By the way, thanks for doing this! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

While were at it, we can add a list of good Jewish Lawyers.
Myself Mr.GoldstienRosenthalbaum is not too legal and not always straight because of his Giancanna ties.

Anyways Proboy, that is good idea and the club could use a good 'street reference' person.

Yes ProBoy, thanks for doing this. You proffessional opinion is much appreciated on this matter. Most of the questions I have, have already been asked, I am just waiting for the answers. It will clear up many questions that we have about mods on our car. I am sure most of us would like to stay within legal limits.

Thanks

I agree, even though I've got no questions or concerns myself, just reading questions from others will more than likely answer any that I may have in the future.

First off, I would like to thank you for doing such a great service like this for us. It is really important that we all know the laws.

All points so far are great questions but what I would like to know is what are the restrictions with tampering with pollution control devices and what would allow one to do so other than time.

FOR ONE, donuts make me puke and I dont drink coffee...well very rarely....it burns you out....and coffee breath is sooo
gross.

I have a handwritten list so far and I will post it at the end of the week to make sure I have covered everything.

I should have the actual FAQ done after the weekend sometime.

And dont see this as a service. When I am on the board I am regular joe-blow with the same car as you.

Underneath I am fragile and have feelings, and I hurt, and I weep..........snif

Seriously, this info is public knowledge, you just have to look for it. I just have experience in explaining it so it is understood.

I just want to clear up some urban myths and again, make our club professional.

Besides, our cars are pretty slick looking they way they are.......why disgrace your car with hub-caps on your snow tire rims or Crown Air Fresheners.

In regards to tints, I was also wondering of the legality issues with color tints. i.e yellow/blue/green. You can see through them very easily but I think I heard they were illegal.

There it goes again. RACIAL PROFILING OF THE ONLY TOKEN BROTHERMAN OF JAMAICAN HERITAGE. I'm gonna file a complaint with the S.I.U.

What about making your car spark?
I wanna hang steel chains outta sight on my rear axel. And when I go over an imperfection, dip, or bump in the road I wanna make my car spark?

Can a brother make a car spark without Five O' harassing him?

Have we met in person?

FYI,

The project is almost done. It should be posted very soon. Some things had to be changed and I have come across some new information about the future of modified cars in general.

I have found an article in a magazine regarding this. It is pretty vague and generic but offers a bit of insight in to the enforcing of street racing and the like.

When this article becomes available on-line I will post it for you all.

I hope this article that proboy is referring to isn't the one that is more or less banning all aftermarket products... I think it sucks, but the law is the law... can't wait to read the report!

I have finally been able to email the thing to Rowan so he can post a link to it.

It's long, and should answer all your questions.

Hopefully it will open up some dialog as well as educate.
