View Full Version : DIY Flush Bumper Lense for P5

April 21st, 2005, 12:37 AM
Not sure if anyone has ever thought of this but after having the celica lenses on and not really matching the look. I tinted them. Well I didn't like that so... I retro fitted an accord flush mounted bumper lense onto my P5. It took less then 45mins in the early evening to do, less then $70 (so if you were gonna spend that much anyway to do RX7 or anyother lense I think this looks way better!http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif and it's the clear lense not euro style to match with those who have side markers too.
I created a template to make sure the cut out was precise, used a little hacksaw, and a file.

Here's another angle to show that they are flush

Here is a template or trace out of what I actually had to cut out of the bumper. It's actually not that much since the hole for the OEM one is rather big with two other squares on either side.
I used a clear sheet of transparent paper to make sure that the cut outs lined up on both sides of the bumper.
In total you will need for pieces and a set of clear lenses from your local performance shop.
Hope this helps anyone who is looking for alternatives for clear bumper lenses.

Are the lens from the back or front bumper?
Shawn?
bigmikey
May 10th, 2005, 12:15 PM
I believe they are rear lenses from the 94-97 accords.
my question is... how'd you get the black lining around the lense when you mounted it to the car?.... the accord lenses i've seen didn't come with that

I was thinking 97-01 Prelude front bumper lens.
Maybe Roy can shoot use the clear lens part numbers.

Guys,
Sorry for not responding to the other posts wasn't sure if everyone wanted the details some people have pm'd me.
The clear lenses are aftermarket and if you go into any performance shop and ask for the Accord 94-97 clear bumper lense they will know what you mean. For that matter if you go and ask for the 97-01 prelude bumper lenses they will still give you the Accord ones.
The black trimming around the lenses are the parts that I listed.
The way it works is one of the parts sits on the inside of the bumper while the other part goes on the outside. They have this sandwich effect on the bumper and that's how they stay on. If done correctly they snap together and at one end a screw holds the one side in place. When you insert the lense into the trim the screw will hold the other side together.
You will also need to open up the cut out for the bulb & harness so that it fits snug.
Like I said it really only took about 35-45 mins.

Done. But you must be amazing at cutting that bumper material. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
It took me 35 minutes per side, and I had to clearance the washer bottle. But it is done. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif
NOW, should I paint the trim red around the lamp?? http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/omg.gif

Shawn,
Looks good. I had a really good handsaw that had teeth still. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif and a file that was flat on one side and half-moon on the other. The one side cleared the washer bottle a little tight but it cleared.
I don't recommend to paint that trim because the paint will not adhere properly and it will eventually chip.
Good Job! http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Comes with the bezels for 5$... but 25$ shipping.
Even if it's 30$ total and better than what I can prob find elsewhere.. I feel stupid paying 500% for shipping on a part.. just.. common now.
I'm sure there are plenty of scrap yards with the bezels.
