you can get to the "clamps" if you take out the glove box and the panel under the steering column. If you get these off, reach up through the triangular pieces with a small screw driver and you can lightly pry the clamps away from the deck, and slide the deck out. Sorry no pics or how-to.

will try that, i've removed the glove box before but still doesn't seem to be much room to work with.

Or just drop by a dealership service department. Most of them will either do it for you for free, or they will let you use their key.
