i want a dvd player in my car, but the thing is i dont have the $$$$ to buy one to put in the actual mount thing, so i was thinking of getting a monitor which allows me to hook up the ps2 and play games and dvd's...now here is the problem...i have 2 cars, and i swtich between summer and winter, now i want to be able to move around the monitor or DVD player to both cars, but i don't know which one would be easier...also, i am confused if i can hook up both systems (monitor & ps2 or dvd player) to my car speakers....and also lol...can i hook them up in the future to a system if i do get one....thanks http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Here's your solution:
Hook it up in my car and I'll let you play with it whenever you want.
Done. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There will be more info needed. There are several diffferent was to do this. You can get a removable screen that you can mount anywhere in the car. You could also get an indash unit but this will pose mild problems when removing to switch cars. (not so bad if it's for several months) The DVD/Video game idea is pretty easy to solve. you can't really get very many mobile DVD units for cars for the $300 price tag of a PS2 or Xbox. You could also go with one of those all in one units that just sits on your lap or dash and has a screen and DVD player. Fab something up to mount it and you are set for removal from car to car to home.

The way my set up works is I've got the in dash screen...and then a processor/master unit. I plug my ps2 and dvd player into the processor. When I leave my car, I just have to unplug everything from the processor. Don't have to mess with anything.

If you are using your stock speakers and you want two systems running you will need the processor unit to separate between the audio signal. I have a screen and it can be removed, but not many screens actualy have speakers attached to them so you will ahve a lot of different switchings of cables to change between the two cars. My advice is if you want a mobile one, get a stand alone DVD player with integrated monitor and video inputs for your playstation. That way you can take it anywhere. IF you do want to do it that way, the best thing to do is get a screen and hook it up in the dash with a processor unit and then you can hook whatever you want into it and still remove it, however the indash screen will have to stay.

There should be a place to hook things up to it, it really depends on the model. If you get a portable one forget about wiring it to the speakers, it's more trouble than what it's worth.

I'm wondering if a FM modulator could help Pasta out. Instead of buying decks with AV switching capabilities in both cars why don't you find out if you can get a FM modulator to send the audio to your car's speakers. It might work - but then again it might not.

I think the modulaotr would work, but it's not the best way to do it. I think the easiest way to explain an FM modulator is that it takes an audio signal and you play it through your radio FM frequency. More than likely 89.5FM I would just play it through the portable player or go all out and get an indash and hook that up throught th speakers.

thanks for the help guys!!!
but i think this is what i am gonna do...i'm gonna buy a decent deck..nothing special and then put more money into a portable dvd player...then i'll just leave the dvd player on the dash of my car and use the deck for my cd's...i'll think about getting that fm modulater thing as i might want the dvd player to run throughout the whole car...
now i have another question for you...is it possible to hook up a ps2 to the portable dvd player??

You should be able to hook up anything via RCAs to the portable unit. Just take a look at it before you buy it.

Buy a deck that has an aux input. My Alpine 7894 has one, I just need to hook up a PS2 to it and when I switch sources on the deck it will give me the aux option (CD/AM/FM/Changer/Aux)
PS: Plus it has amber illumination to match my deck!
My question is this; will a PS2 play (DVD or Games) in a moving car? Especially with lowered (read rougher) suspension, I want to put video in my Civic this winter but I'm afraid the PS2 won't work. Maybe I'll just buy the Alpine DVD Changer.

If I had a PS2 in my car, I would definitely try to build some kind of cushioning for it. I'm not sure how well the optical laser reader will hold up after a few rough jolts. Think about it: A headunit specifically designed for a car can sometimes skip if the bump you hit is really severe. A PS2 that's not designed for the car won't last too long if you're car handles and feels like you're riding on a garbage can lid.

thats very true...but can you really build a box that has so much cushion that it will take bump for the ps2..i think it's impossible because no matter how hard you hit a bump that box will move..

but anyways....i think it should hold up in a car...cause so many people have them in their cars that it must work...and i never heard of any problems so far...
