Just thought I'd let all you guys know that my intake is in. I am no longer bone stock under the hood (other than my "high-flow black silicone tubing").
Next step: Tint

I'll hopefully have the money to do that in the fall.
Such a LONG time to wait.
MAN, I wish I had extra cash laying around.

If anyone has any questions about the install, I'd be glad to try and answer them. I'll hopefully have pics posted soon too.

And......
Any chance I can pick up the trickle charger from you? I'm antsy to get on my bike before my foot is back in a cast!!!

'Trickle Charger'...

Sounds like a cruel anti-bedwetting device....

I finally got my camera back, so here are some pics of my RACTIVE install.

I used $2 bracket from Canadian Tire.  You can find it in the hardware/nuts and bolts section. I plan to paint it black.

K where and when?

In my opinion, your method of supporting your intake is high risk with respect to damage to the MAS. You have bolted the MAS which rocks back and forth with the engine using a rigid "L" bracket mounted to the car body so the only items that can compensate for engine movement are the two rubber couplings between the engine and the MAF. This will put a lot of stress on the MAF through the single bolt that attaches the "L" bracket.

A safer installation would be to use the bracket that came with the kit, and one more just like it, and bolt both to the engine using the last hole on each, with onebracket going to the front, and the other going to the rear. then bend each bracket upward and toward the intake. Continued on next reply

The place to bolt on the engine is the bolt at the right front corner that is supporting a cable. the bracket going to the rear of the engine when properly bent will attach to the clamp on the rubber coupling connected to the rear of the MAS. the bracket going to the front when likewise bent, will attach to the clamp connectingthe front rubber coupling on the MAS to the front aluminum tube, or you can clamp it directly to the tube with an additional clamp. You should use two brackets because one is not strong enough, but untill you get a second bracket, the one with the kit will work best by going to the front. This is what I dod on my P5 after trying several other ways. Watch for sufficient clearance between the master cylinder and the rear intake tube.

Hey wjcostly - I agree - having the intake mounted to a fixed area causes a lot of stress on the unit.
My intake is mounted directly to the engine - engine moves - intake follows.
Trying to find a camera to take some pics to post....soon.

Since I just installed mine a couple of days or so, I've been spending my free time over the past few days tinkering trying to get everything just right.
wjcostley, you bring up some excellent tips that I was just going to post about.

The bracket that comes with the kit is flimsy, and if you make a mistake and have to bend it more that once, it's pretty much useless. I'm using a much MUCH stronger solid steel piece that I machined holes into and have attached directly to the engine so that everything moves together.
(Raymond will tell you that this is important too)
I've painted it yellow to match the rest of the kit.

The other "problem" is the master cylinder. Since it is mounted to the body and doesn't move, as the engine moves (especially at low rpm in first gear) some rubbing can occur. The feedback will be VERY noticeable in the brake pedal. I've made my new bracket slightly shorter so it pulls the intake a little closer to the engine and away from the master cylinder. It seems to be working so far.

Final adjustments will be made tomorrow after the paint dries. I'll let you know how it goes

Sondra, I did get your pm, but I've been busy, and haven't had the time to meet up with you, or ask you where and when you would want to meet. If Bill can't hook you up, I'm still here.

Help...!

I'm going to be making some spare brackets for the Ractive Superflow kit.
They are solid steel and are immeasureable stronger than the bracket that comes with the kit.
If you want one, let me know. I'm making a couple today.
They will come pre bent with fixed holes, perfect for mounting directly to the engine (the best place to mount it).
The holes can be enlarged relatively easily with a titanium drill bit if you choose.

I'm not trying to make a whole whack a cash off of these things, but you can buy me a drink if you want. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Hello all!
I'm leungwingkei and I'm new to this board although I am a senior member on protegeclub.com for quite sometime since I got my Protege5 last year.

Anyways, I am interested in purchasing a pre-bent bracket from 323F~SW. I want to know if you have any left in stock and how much it will go for? Since, I have continuously experimeted with the stock bracket to prevent it from rubbing against the MBC and the rad hose to no avail. I also wish to know if I need any additional bolts or nuts I will need to use to secure the intake using your new bracket.

In addition, does anyone know where they sell the Injen CAI in the GTA and for what prices?

323, you can contact me by emailing me at

luiskoo@hotmail.com

Thanks again.

323, I too am interested in your "extra-strength" brackets.

However after looking at everyones intake pics...I still can't figure out how you guys attached it to the engine.
