Ok here is the deal, I am in need of a car alarm in the next little while. Now I have a couple of options. I can get the Viper 790xv for $200 or I am looking into the Compustar 2WSS-AS for $320. Whats your take on it? What is the better alarm.
I have heard the viper is great but has remote problems...and the compustar well the range of 6000' sounds nice but is it true and how good is the alarm?

The compustar is awsome. ask the dozens and dozens of people who have them on the board.

I would say the compustar or arctic start (both are the same product, just the sticker is different). I got mine from Lockdown about a year ago and have had nothing but good times with it.

i'm lovin my compustar so far.. the only problems i've had w/ it was when it was -45 and the car wouldn't start and was struggling to unlock the doors... i used to have a avatar alarm which is the lower end Viper alarm which was good to do the basics

I personally  http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif my Viper alarm, never had a problem with it, and it cost me a fraction of what the Compustar cost.
Edit: As far as I'm concerned as long as it has shock sensor, hood/door pins, starter/fuel cut and makes a loud noise it'll do the job. No matter how much you spend on an alarm if someone wants it, they'll take it.

I have the 350 HV with a few add ons.

I didn't want the 2-way, won't work in my underground parking anyways, or pretty much anywhere else I go for that matter.

VIPER DEI electronics has its low end and hi-end stuff. Bulletproof reliability and has been around a long time. The choice is yours.
I have a basic 300ES or ES300 and it serves me well.
Have had VIPERS in all my previous HONDA's and most TINT/ACCESSORY shops know it well too.

do you just want an alarm, or do you want an alarm/remote starter?
i think joe's viper is alarm only? Â just something to think about. Â it is nice to jump in a warm car after work when it's -25 out.
edit: sorry my bad the 2 models you mentioned are alarm/remote starters.
as for the SS (spread spectrum) alarm, do some research because i heard some people were complaining about range problems with this system. for most cases, i'd say the 2w900fm with a range of about 3000' is enough.
