ready i'm asking is....i went to my shop today (supposed to pick up the car)...but there's one wire/plug that's been yanked off by the shop (that towed my car), and needs to be replaced. My suspicion is that this wire is the line for my power steering (since my car currently has no power steering, and that's the only thing that's not working at the moment). Anybody knows?
this line was supposed to be connected to this plug near the bottom right of the engine, and the plug originates from underneath the stock air box (way under).

Bottom right? As in passenger side? The pump on the bottom is A/C and the pump on the top is PS in the right front corner of the engine. Hope that helps.

i meant right as in the driver's side (sorry..should've said, right side, when you're facing the front of the car)....
basically....way below the stock air box....

The car is equiped with "Load/Speed Sensitive Assist"
It's probably as you say, just disconected electronically.

I'm quite sure the power steering in the 3rd gens are fully mechanical.
Eric, check the FSM to identify the plug.

so you can disable the power steering just by pulling a plug? any repercussions? I've been curious about disabling it. This could free up a wee bit of power.

The only way to get more power is to remove the load of the pump ,if you just discontect the wire you will still have the parasitic drag of the pump .

ah yes thats obvious! http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif
Drain the fluid, that will take the load off. (but drying out the pump might dry the impeller seal over time)

Removing the oil from your engine will result in more horsepower, too. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sarcasm.gif
