Hey Gen1GT, Hondakilla and anyone else who has removed their power steering belt. After you removed it would you say that it was just like a car that never had power steering to begin with or is it stiffer. I am wondering if the steering is geared so that you need the power steering to move wheel comfortably.

My power steering cant ceep up with how fast I have to turn the wheel during some slaloms. When Im wipping it arround it gets stiffer while im steering. It litteraly wont let me turn the wheel fast enough. The faster I turn the wheel the stiffer it gets! The change in stiffness really throws me off so hopefully if I take it off it will be like a normal older car.

Anyways thats why I want to do it so do you think it would help me?

I will make this really easy.....take it off and see how you like it!!! If you don't like it then put it back on! It honestly takes me about 2 minutes to take it off or put it back on (even with my fat hands in that engine bay).

It is hard to relay the "feel" to you people because for guys like Josh and myself we are pretty big guys and it will feel differently to us then you.

Here's the deal. Since our cars are geared to have power steering, it's a pretty quick ratio. Now, take away the power components, and now your steering is quick, responsive, heavy(in a good way ), and accurate, with lots of road feedback. Now, because the ratio is geared towards power assistance, it's really hard to use in a parking lot. But like Scot said, it's not like we're 100 lb girls here. Why don't we organize a meet, where people can take Scot and mines' cars for a boot in a parking lot, just to see how it feels. If they like it, we can bring the tools to take off your belts, and try it for yourself. It LITERALLY takes 5 minutes to put back on, so it ain't no thang....

oh ya, taking off the power steering gives NOTICABLE gain in power....

Good idea Josh. I'd like to know just how stiff we're talking here. Right now the steering on the P5 is too light for me - I've complained about it before in a past thread.

If everyone is so inclined, you could all come to my work, and we could do the belt thing on Sunday(whoever wants to check it out..) We can use our detail bay, which is heated, and we have tools.....

I'd like to test that out. I'm not sure if I'm strong enough to handle it. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
