I currently have the Ractive intake with the Ractive filter. I'm looking at either replacing it with an AEM or Injen intake or just replacing the Ractive filter with a K&N. If I do go the replacement of the entire intake route, AEM or Injen....

You can get my cold air extension which will change your current Ractive short ram into an Injen type cold air intake. The extension extends down in the the fenderwell like the Injen where the filter will be mounted.

Go with an Injen!!!

There are many reasons:

It looks the best
Sounds the best
Performs the best (my opinion)

Oh ya....and in the Westside the girls love it cause they know that you aint playin games when you open the hood and they see that "INJEN" staring back at them!

...these aren't the same girls that are impressed with a "Type R" sticker/badge, are they? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

lmao. OK, I'm just a little paro putting the filter into the fenderwell. I don't want to have another P5 on this board with a hydrolocked engine. What are the chances of the Injen injuring my car with the filter out like that.

What would the sound difference be too compared to the Ractive I have now. My friend has the Ractive intake for his Civic, yet his car is damn loud and sounds awesome compared to this one. His is one piece with a long straight section to it, so I'm wondering if extending my pipe would result in a similar sound to this.

Don't wory about the water thing. We might get one nice drop a year. That day you don't drive or you take precautions. AEM makes a water bypass valve which would get rid of your worries about hydrolocking because it is impossible to do it with that. AEM intakes are good. The sound is often times dependant on filter and engine. Also where the filter is would make a difference in how much you hear it.

does the bumper need to be removed when installing the Injen CAI. I know for some Honda's it does and I kind of figure it would be the same for mazdas

No the bumper does not need to be removed for the Injen CAI install. Just the plastic wheel well needs to be opened, it's only 3 screws.

don't listen to the instructions when it tells you to remove the bumper to get the intake on........unless your hands are Andre "The Giant" size, you have nothing to worry about..........cruisin's right in that you only need to remove the bottom plastic wheel well.......a bunch of guys have the intake and didn't remove their bumper.......including yours truly, so install is quite quick and easy.......... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Thx for the info.....all I need to do now is get one. Anybody know of a place where I can get a good deal on an Injen CAI. Canadian Tire can get them, but retail is $500!!!

I know Kdawg One has mentioned a shop quite a few times that he gets parts from. They are pretty good and seem resonably priced on quite a few things.

Is an Injen really that much better than a Craptive? I mean $400 better?? What would be the benefit? 1 hp tops? I cant see a drastic hp increase and I thought I had read that the hp difference between a CAI and a SRI were very minimal..if at all?
Personally I would just change the filter to a K&N..just my 2 cents.

For the amount of horsepower gain, it's not worth the money difference in my opinion. It does look way better and sounds good, and the performance might be increased a touch more, but again it's a dollar thing. If you have the money to blow get it, if not just replace your filter. I have the ractive and I'm replacing the filter with HKS or an AEM.
