I was at the local performance parts establishment a few months ago, while I was still in school and broke. I asked about an intake for my g2 1.8L I knew that Injen made a CAI and AEM made a short ram. Well, they quoted me about $550CDN for the Injen and something like $350 or 450$ (I can't remember) for the AEM. I Emailed A-Spec and told them about that and asked if they had them cheaper. They said "Most all those intakes are flakes. We charge around 100~ for a fully
installed K'n'N setup. It is nice simple and clean and you choose how it
looks and how it is bent / positioned."
It sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but does anyone else have one?? How do you like it?? Is it worth the money??And, what'd it cost you with taxes and all that?? I'm finished school for the year and still broke. I don't expect a huge gain, just something thats useable.

well, think of it this way > $100 gets you the a-spec "custom" k&n intake and piping. not sure how it's going to look and function, but many of my friends have gone to a-spec and they are a very reputable shop. my friend's RX-7 was completely redone by them. A Ractive intake is about $120, and you already know what it looks and sounds like cuz so many other people have them. So i guess what i'm saying is that, go for the $100 a-spec setup and if it turns out nice, i'm sure that you'll be the only one that has one (which is cool cuz it's original) and you can show it off.... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah, it seems like a good deal and all that, and if they are a reputable shop then it sounds even better. I just can't believe that no one (or they have't read this yet if they do) else has one. I guess thats not too bad. A one off intake.
Thanks

Ya know Mike, I'm torn on the issue...
If I were to get one, I'd probably go the route of getting it custom done (such as provided by A-Spec). I had one installed in my previous vehicle by the Sprongl Brothers (Sprongl Racing) out of Georgetown, and I like the work that these specialty shops do - it lasted the duration of the vehicles life and I never once had *any* problems with it.
But to get back to your question: Money's tight right now, gotta get my springs first, then a job, then I'll consider the intake. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

P.S. By the way, I *really* like your new .sig file - please tell me you know her and that she's available... HAHA!

Hmmm, the Sprongls, damn good rallye peeps... I think they drive Hyundais now, but they drove Audi Quatrros for quite a few years.. As for your intake, go with a unit that will suit your budget. Any type of upgrade will surely free up some restriction and we all know how stock intake systems are when it comes to air restriction. The key is to improve response overall even if gains are minimal..

...they drive Hyundai's now??? Man, I knew I was out of the loop, I just didn't realize how *much*... Yup, I went to those guys when they were kicking butts in their Audi Quattros.
As to your suggestion - quite sound. I would like to explore some of the options, and given that I'm not really in any rush, I'm hoping to land a job soon (whereby my first paycheck will be spent on my car i.e. an intake of some sort). http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

dr_s, yup they race Hyundais now, I believe a Tiburon. Last I heard, they're doing pretty good but when they had the Quattro, they were always hard to beat. They do get a lot of support from Hyundai, who are as committed as anyone in rally racing. Good luck with your future mod, btw...
