View Full Version : Can A P5 ECU Be Flashed With The MP3 Settings?

I'm just curious if the MP3 settings could be flash onto a P5 ECU. What are the chances that the dealer would do this? Would DWM consider doing this? http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dontgetit.gif Warranty is not an issue, mine is pretty much shot anyways.

they could probably do it but I doubt they would

this guy is looking to trade his for a P5 one though so that might be an option http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86760

I rather not do a swap with someone from the US. To many chances of something going wrong, plus added down time.

You can ask Mazda directly. My dealer has been really great with all my stupid questions over the years. That's probably because he knows that I'll never come in with any type of waranty work!

CrazyCaker
October 30th, 2004, 10:51 AM
Yeah, I'll probably just end up asking them if they mind doing it. Not sure how well that'll go over though. I guess no one here has done it, or even considered doing it. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Joe, there was a thread about this quite a while back. I remember reading through it, but I don't really remember what the general consensus was. If you dig around you'll probably find it. If you don't have any luck, I'll see if I can dig it up either later this afternoon or tomorrow.

Crikey!!!

I actually found a thread on it using the Search function http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
(not the one I was looking for,...this one is for Turbo'd MP3, but you might still get some info)

Click here (http://ib2.toprotege.com/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=4;t=5108;hl=mp3)

Darren, that thread is talking more in regards to an actual swap rather then a reflash.

Jay, no as in it can't be done, or no as in no one has tried it?

I too remember a thread way back talking about the reflashing of a MP3 ECU with our P5's or ES's and for some technical babble IT WAS A DEFINITE NO!!!.

If this could be done, do you know how many of us would have done it as cheap upgrade? However, if it can be done, What da hell I would be in like Pat Quinn.

However I would ask EDWIN DA MAN. He seems to be a man about these things.

Yeah, I know. I couldn't find the one that I was referring to. But I did find that one and thought you might still find it interesting.

I know it was definitely discussed before (and Mike confirmed), I just don't know where the thread is.

Hey, I was just combing through the US boards and came across this sig. If you look at his list of mods is labels a reflashed ecu with MP3 setting.

Only down side to it is that you'll have to run premium fuel afterwards.

Do you really think its worth it, Id check some dyno results of stock MP3 and Stock P5 or whatever you are going to be flashing even if that can be done. I do remeber that the MP3 and the only had a 10 crank hp difference translated to whp add to the fact that the intake was different slightly Im not sure you would gain what you are looking for

Your right, I believe it is about 10 hp at the crank. But, the same could be said spending $300 for a CAI that only gives you 2 whp gain right? http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dontgetit.gif

Im kinda saying you might not get the 2 whp you want from the MP3 ECU and you need to run premium.

well, I wouldn't mind running a 15.8, like that red p5. And the only thing he has done is a header from es, which we suspect does nothing and a midpipe. So I'm guessing the next major mod would be that flashed ecu. I'm lucky if I run somwhere in the 16's.

How much would it cost to reflash ur ECU w/ the MP3 setting if the dealership would do it?

cruisinblackp5

That's in the plans for next year's mods. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But for now, I'd be happy with a reflashed ECU if it's possible and doesn't cost much.

Cheaper then a reflash?

We haven't even determined how much it would be to do it yet.

Called DWM. Kevin wasn't there and was supposed to be back and give me a call. I guess he's busy, that's cool. I'll call back when I get a chance. Maybe he'll respond to the post, I dunno. I guess the verdict will have to wait another day.

Sorry guys. My service advisor gave me a piece of paper with a phone number regarding this. Can't find it under all the paper on my desk after almost a week away..
Will someone email me (not pm) about this, then I will remember to ask and get the right answer.
We went though this a couple of years back when we were building the Grand Am car. At that time it was not turbo charged.. and the stock computer was for an automatic..
The engine was built with the mp3 intake manifold(this is were some of that 10hp comes from) I think we had to get an mp3 euc and then reprogram that one with the most up to-date information(reflash).
Email; i should be able to response by Tuesday night.
