Just a little tip for anyone interested,
I noticed that after I installed my Injen CAI in my P5 that I had a few things happen:
-a whistle on acceleration
-little bit of hesitation when I stomped on it
Solution:
I opened up the wheel well behind the intake.
I cut a rectangle about 6" long and 4" high covered it with steel mesh(painted black to blend in), and intalled a bypass valve.
The valve was because of the increased chance of slurping some H2O into the engine.
Result: My intake breathes 100% better and I noticed a big difference.
I don't think that the intake was getting enough air and the whistle was from air getting sucked into the box that the filter was in. (and yes I checked to make sure it wasn't a dirty filter or pipe causing the whistle.)
Just some food for thought!

You're gonna have to check your filter a lot more often and clean it as well. It is def. gonna get dirty. That does soundintersting though, I don't get that sound with mine.

Ya thats one draw back but the filter is a lot easier to get to now as well.
I don't mind sacrificing some time to clean my filter if the payoff is increased performance!

Well when u install the by-pass valve u sacrifice some power. The air has to now go thru extra filter. But thats weird as i never heard of anyone having that problem. However i dont think that the cutting the hole was a good idea. Careful going thru water http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

When you think about it though, having my wheel well opening is no different then when you put a front skirt on a car and cover the openings with mesh. My friend has a 93 Prelude with a skirt and the opening is right in front of his CAI. I just happen to like the stock skirt on my P5 so instead of taking out the fog lights and putting mesh I decided to go through the wheel well instead. I've been driving in rain for the last to days and suprisingly not too much water is getting in to the compartment! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

You shouldn't have any problems at all with th ebypass valve as I have seen a filter fully submerged in water and the engine still run fine with the bypass. After a few days are you still finding it better and less whistle. Also how does the filter look, clean or dirty. Just curious.

The problem you outlined with the placement of the Ingen filter is exactly why AEM didn't go with an all out CAI.

My filter actually looks pretty much the same as it did before I opened up the wheel well, not really dirty... that irritating whistle is gone, I was tired of people asking if I had turbo!
Navy,
I always wondered why AEM claimed more gain with theirs over Injens. It didn't make sense considering where their intake sits. It sits pretty close to the exhaust manifold and basic performance knowledge tells you Cold air->more hp
Makes sense now, and i'm dying to dino my car and see what kind of gain I have now.....I wouldn't be surprised if its 1-2hp gain from my mod!
