"BTW I just put mine on yesterday and I need to know; where in the hell do you jack up a Protegé? I learned quickly that it's not the same spot as my Civic (reinforced on the lower sill) as the metal started to fold up."

Oh that's sooo funny as I the other day I put the jack underneath a seemingly solid place. It was further in on the running side skirts nearing the door hinge but underneath where I thought I felt solid metal. I nearly cried......, the tears of the Shaolin hand in fire ritual.

The B#$@! sunk in like playdough and I must have a permanent sink mark when viewed from underneath. I don't wanna even look at what I've done. Next time I'm only jacking up my car dead ctr front, and dead ctr back with those shipping tie hooks.

I know the manual must say something but all my cars in the past could be done safely in this manner, even the soft metal rust prone accords and civics of the early 90' and 80's.

Can some techi shed some light into this subject. Especially those that work rice and ice wonders on their car daily. Dave, Rowan, Sven any others...,

I've always jacked mine up at the recomended jack pints. From the owners manual.

I'll take some pics tonight and post em.

I tried to take pics but they came out crappy and you can't tell where to jack it.

When I jacked up my '02, it went ok when I chose the EXACT recommended spot. But once I did try in another spot and sure enough, it began to sink in, but I caught it before it was bad.
I will be jacking up the new car in a few weeks when I put on the snows and by golly, I'll be careful!
Believe it or not, the Mazda manual is handy for a few things.

I know where my jack-points are, but if you're not sure, put the jack under the control arms. Sometimes hard to get at, but it lifts up the wheel, keeping the spring compressed. Easier for wheel romoval.

Make sure to read the entire thing as the 3rd pic is NOT a good place to put a jack stand.

I think all the cars came with an owners manual, just read it for crying out loud instead of complaining and asking stupid questions. It shows you exactly how to do it.

Not necessarily are instructions clear as mud, as interpretations and ambiguity exists. The tough hardened steel thing at the side of my car turned out to be soft. I had common sense to know that my P5 side skirts were not to be used and I moved further in towards a seeminly hard steel block of the chasis of which looked like a support beam and I was wrong. I guess my other cars like the Accord, Micra and Omni were all cool that way.

But now, I just use a hydralic jack and will do it the very dead ctr on the U-shaped crap beam both back or front and raise two wheels just to be safe. But that is just me though. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif
