Love the Mazdaspeed look and getting used to the orange. Also love the IS300 but would like the hatchback better. Did Canada get the hatchback?

the black car is in fact very dark grey and yup its an IS300 with Lexus L-Tuned parts. I love the look and the "sport" muffler makes it scream like an Indy car. Strut, spring, sway bar setup is very go-kart-like on the street but too soft for the track.

Its actually interesting to compare these two cars. both are factory moded, both have agressive body kits, they are nearly identical in size but the LExus moded out like this is TWICE the money of the Mazdaspeed and much less able on the track.

LOL - sometimes I think my posts are invisible. Could've swore I made mention of the IS300, which is a Lexus BTW, the one that some mags say the P5 resembles. A compliment - being compared to a $40K car!

And the added bonus with the Mazdaspeed - it's front wheel drive so no need to store it for the winter! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif (That a major decision factor for me when I got my MP3 over some other cars I was considering.)

And 03bluP5, Lexus Canada did carry the hatchaback last year (not sure about this year). They did a big marketing blitz, but judging from what I see on the road, I would say they did not achieve their target ...

great shots Mike! however, i still find that the Mazdaspeed Protege looks too stock. i definitely needs a crazy body kit like the WingsWest one!

03bluP5: I was just confirming what you said - don't worry i read your post http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

lexus calls the hatch/wagon version Sportcross and i'm pretty sure its still around for '03 though as ORange pointed out they haven't sold many.

The wings west kit is pretty decent. I would go without a wing in either case.

I really like the sound of a dark grey Mazdaspeed with no rear wing (would have to replace the trunklid).

ORange: FWD and RWD have nothing to do with winter driving. Either car without proper snows will be a real pain the ass in the snow. case in point we were dropping of the project P5 to dave wood today when that little blizzrd hit. Both the P5 and the Mazdaspeed my ride was driving were impossible in the snow - we were literally going 5 kph down the ramp and the P5 with Paradas was sliding sideways from the crown in the road. Any car will be awesome in the snow with proper snow tires.

No, no .. get JIC-Magic coilovers, and a 3rd party turbo, plus the LSD from the Mazdaspeed and you will probably come in under budget for what it would cost for the factory parts http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif And have a more customizable setup.

under what is would cost for the factory parts but not what it would cost for the factory mazdaspeed ($26,995)

Pic 2 is my new wallpaper. Love the look AS IS. Hope people don't think it needs wild graphics - would totally ruin the beautiful, clean lines.
Not a real fan of the spoiler though - kinda looks like a portable bar. Maybe it would be handy for those after ballgame trunk parties (lining up all the beer bottles)
Thanks for confirming the IS300 hatch is or was available in Canada. Too bad its popularity didn't catch on. To me, it's a higher end P5 for those who want more luxury and power. I'm not a sedan fan - trunks are too limiting for life's stuff. Just me.
I'll be interested in seeing the dark grey Mazdaspeed next year. Years ago, charcoal grey was a popular choice and looked good when new but didn't hold up well. Didn't stay clean for long and just got boring looking after a few years. I assume the new revised grey colour is metallic and will be more spectacular. Hope it takes off.
