Uhh... too hot .... don't feel like typing.

Here's what they say off their website:

"K&N's Filtercharger® can actually double air flow, which, in turn, adds extra horsepower. The secret lies in the K&N Filtercharger® 's unique design. Conventional auto filters use paper or foam material permeated with millions of tiny, irregular passages, that screen dirt particles out of the air. Because the dirt particles are trapped inside the passages, they eventually clog; and when this occurs, airflow restriction increases dramatically. With the Filtercharger®, a special cotton fabric is sandwiched between the pleated aluminum screen wires. The pleated design provides five times more filtering surface over the element circumference. The cotton/screen wire filter media is then saturated with a formulated air filter oil. Acting like a fluid curtain, this oil attracts particles of dirt and debris which build up on the outside of the filter. This buildup of dirt particles suspended in oil creates more and more irregular passages that actually create an additional filtering barrier with use. In most cases, up to 1/8" of dust can cover a Filtercharger® before performance is significantly affected. On a street driven automobile, a Filtercharger® can last up to 50,000 miles before service is required. Then, because it's made of reusable materials, you can just clean it, apply fresh K&N Filter Oil and re-install. Of course, K&N has developed environmentally friendly cleaning products designed to effectively clean the filter without harming the environment through the absence of fluorocarbons. More air flow, increased horsepower, long lasting performance, our Million Mile Warranty even after 35 years, the K&N Filtercharger® is still on the cutting edge of air filtration technology"

In short, it's a good investment if you're not looking for replacing the entire intake.

hehehe...Chopstick you cheater!!!

And just so you know EYT, if you install an intake, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will void the warranty. Avante is great for honouring warranty work on cars that have mods. as a lot of dealers are, as long as you ask the dealer before installing anything.

If you live anywhere near Avante Mazda, go see them, they are very helpful and knowledgeable about performance mods for your protege!

Good Luck!

If anyone can confirm this please do....but

I heard that those K&N fliters that you put in your car....with out the intake ....don't really do much! Cause the car has the same air restriction and all that. TO feel anyh difference you need to take out the stock box.

Thanks what i think...

p5kid...you are right, it is more\less the LEAST you can do to help your car breath better...and yes the oxy. restriction is largely due to the duct work the stock unit has.

yeah
it's only a k&n filter... you won't void warranty at all.
i don't think even an aftermarket intake will void warranty, unless something goes horribly wrong... eg. water getting into intake manifold... etc etc....

so if something is wrong, just throw your stock stuff back on.
i bet that's harder than it is... lol....

Avante Mazda is at 11262 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill, north of Major Mackenzie

K&N drop in filters are the safest way to free up the stock intake....you won't actually hear a difference but in overall state of tune, your car should be more efficient and the power smoother..... http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

we just like the way an open air cone filter sounds when you blip the throttle or gas it to 7000RPM! hehehe http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I bought a K&N drop in FilterCharger ($55) from Performance Improvements last week. I have noticed only minor increases in the power band. Like it was said from another poster, the stock unit still has air flow restrictions. The K&N offers an improvement, but minimal. I have been thinking of ways to allow the stock unit to take more air in....

Besides your slight increase in power (2hp at most?) you will have improved your mileage. Better air flow increases efficiency = better mileage.

So is it worth it?

K+N and auto tranny: worth the $ or not? I don't rev mine past 4000RPMs (usually have it shift below 3000) so high end difference will be un-noticeable for me at least. Does it run smoother with more power low-mid range or is it just for the top of the power band?

Thanx!

Well the filter is 55$ with no big change...but for 40$ more you can get a intake and have some real fun...if you don't want an intake i'd suggest keeping the filter you have now..just make sure its clean!
