Last winter when I picked up my car...I lasted one day in the snow and went to have mine changed to snow tires. I couldn't get any traction until I was able to get into 3rd gear. Unless you're in an area that doesn't get much snow at all you should be fine...but if you're area is known for getting more than a couple inches of snow...I would suggest snow tires.

It's not cold or snow that's so much the problem but wet stuff. The Dunlop 5000M's are not very good in rain or slush, etc, etc. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

There is nothing wrong with the stock tires as long as you realise that you are on wet gound and you have to drive a little slower.

I drove the dunlops through the first slushy snowfall last year. They wern't verry good. I had to fight the car the whole time.
Do you'rself a favour and buy some winter tires.
The safety they offer will be more valuable than saving some cash.
Just remember one thing wether you got snow tires, or all seasons. SNOW IS FROZEN WATER. So drive safely.
FYI I have Khumo I'ZEN Stud KW-11. http://www.kumhousa.com/pages/pcr/kw11.htm

I used to drive a big freekin van on balding tires up and down some of the hilly side streets leading down to the beaches (the beach i know... but calling it the beach just seems pretentious) with no ballast in the back either
I figure that if you are a half decent driver, and are reasonalbe with your driving, you can drive on ice with tires made of glass.
Sure winter tires would be better, safer and what not, but if you aren't doing anything really unreasonable then things should be fine. if things start going apeshit, then slow down... what's the worst that could happen if you drive slow... you'll piss off the riced civic behind you that's late for his meeting with a light post??

I was at Scarboro Town Mazda, and Al said they had a deal on Blizzacks and rims for around $650. The Blizzacks would stick unbeleivably well (as long as you don't take that statement to mean you can drive like a idiot). If you're in the market you might talk to Al at that dealership.
