I need help. My 02 P5 still has the cold start engine rattle even after changing the VTCS delay valve and ping or rattle when the accelerator is pushed hard. When people hear my car start the ask me if I have any oil in the engine, not good advertising for Mazda when I tell them different and Mazda Canada states that it is ok to rattle for up to 60 seconds!! Mine rattles anywhere from 2 seconds to 5 seconds.
The clutch disc and cover where replaced for chatter but not the flywheel. It was reported ok by the tech. It is chattering again. I've never had to replace a clutch. My last car was a 93 Protege 25th Anniversary. I traded it in with 420,000 kilometers with the original clutch. This car was fantastic. I sometimes wish I still had it.
My 3rd problem is corrosion on the spokes of the alloy wheels. My second set are corroding. Mazda had the original wheels refinished twice but the patch job looked terrible so they put on a new set. They have agreed to give me another set. Cheap supplier I guess.
Now my windshield is leaking above the passenger sun visor!
I hate the display functions of the stereo. VOL isn't necessary when adjusting the volume and the time and frequency should always be shown separate.
Mazda is the only car I have been in that doesn't show a thousand digit for the trip odometers. It's digital Mazda wake up!
My headrests ride up so I am constantly pushing them back down into position.
Poor choice for the location of the power door lock switch. I have unintensionally locked the doors while opening the driver's door from the inside.
I get 37 mpg with my Protege5 and used to get 40 mpg with my 93 25th Anniv Protege. My 93 was rated 2 mpg worse than the 02 P5 but the 93 was 3 mpg better on gas.
Can you tell that I'm not overly impressed with my P5!!
Suggestions would be appreciated to correct my first 3 problems.
