She was a good car.....lots of memories....lots of memories made in the car http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.....I learned quite a bit about automotive mechanics from her. She was given all of my attention for 5 years. She was patient with me, forgiving, understanding and always there for me.
She even drove me to the very first P5 meet....little did she know that she helped seal her own doom.
I just sold her to a good friend who will be gutting it out and turning into a track/drag machine. He has showed some of the pieces that await her; GSR engine, GSR interior, Turbo, suspension.....I will be there to watch her evolve...
so that makes
1) 86? GMC Safari
2) 90 4 door sunbird (yes I know...it was my parents)
3) 93 Honda Civic DX (lots of mods, before it was stripped/rapped)
4) 92 Honda Civic SI (2.25 piping, Intake, PnP intake manifold, HKS fuel controller, 17s on Yokos, DC headers, Crane ignition system, soo much more.
wait......I can get spend the money on the P5. LOL

I know how you feel man, I am still partial and faithful to the Honda Motor Corp., probably more so than Mazda after owning one for many years.
Mazda is still somewhat new to me, but I have problems with them being the stepchild to FORD. Mentally I have to get over that and only be loyal to the pure bloodlines traced back to NIPPON.

That is a familiar tune. I had a '91 Civic DX. I don't know what it is, but the new Civics just don't excite me as much.

Also previous Accord owner. Great car. Still looked and drove like new after 10 years. Had some initial concerns "stepping down" to a Protege but no regrets at all.
You'll find solace in the fact that the Protege is still 100% "Made in Japan". One of the few Jap cars - if not the sole car - still made overseas. There are NO Ford parts in it - nothing from the Escort or Focus. Believe me, I wouldn't own a Protege if it were a Ford. Whole reason why I dropped my interest in the MX6 Mystere - when I found out it was really a (n anal) Probe. Glad I never picked one up. Probes are very poorly rated and expensive to keep running properly.
My first car was a Ford product. I was weak and inexperienced then. It literally fell apart almost on a daily basis (Fix Or Repair Daily). It's all part of learning from the school of hard knocks.

I first learned to drive standard on a 93 civic si hatch....but that's about the closet I've been to owning one. The older ones are nicer...the new ones aren't appealing to me at all. Love my pro though!!!! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif

Hondas are nice cars, and you can drive them til the cows come home. My brother had an 87? Civic, with 320 000k, and he now owns a 91 Integra with about 310 000km. He drove both of them like he was doing the Cannonball Run, and he's only now having problems with the Integra. And you can get truckloads of parts for Hondas. But I'm one of them, "gotta be me" type people who has to do things differently. (I can almost hear a resounding 'NO SHIT!' from the club) I really am sick of seeing riced-out Hondas on the road. Other than our club, I've never seen any riced-out Proteges. Although P5s are getting common...and it's not because they're shitty cars. I like the fact that Mazda is the least popular 'rice' car.
