Here it goes, my protege has been subject to, 3 bumper scratches/bruises. Two scratches are in the front; lower left bumber and right front. The other scratch is on the back bumper, driver side. That is a bruise, barely noticable. But the front scratches are very evident.

Now this morning my dad took the car to some dealers on Wolfedale and Dundas, the whole 'dealer ship street' (this is where Erin Mills Mazda is too) anyway i dont know where he went exactly but the guy looked at the right-front bumber scratch and said it would cost $400 buck, and if we payed in cash then it would 'only' cost $300. When i heard this i said what the fuck? I mean the scratch didn't even damage the plastic, its a sanding and paint-over job. $300 buck? wtf!

Ok here is a very poor picture that i took with me digital8 camera in the underground garage so please excuse the quality.

First poor image:

Ok the other thing is that the 'guy' said is that a scratch like that should go through the insurance company and they would need permission from the insurance company. Again i said wtf!

I'm thinking this is big time 'scare' tactics, getting my dad to submit and pay in cash.

Please advise me as to where I should go get this dont, without needing to rob a bank. Thanks

To prep a bumper takes more time then you think. Sanding and priming it and getting it ready for paint will be about 3 hours at $60 an hour. $300 cash is a good price as long as they do a good job.

Its not that bad of a price.

I paid over 400 for my bumper...it does take a lot of work

Im almost 100% that you dont have to go through insurance...that just sounds dumb..why should the guy care as long as he gets paid?

My neighbour scratched my bumper and it set him back $300 to get it refinished. They need to take out the bumper, apply a kit to the scratches, sand it, prime it spray paint it once, resand it, spray it a few times more add the clear coat + bake it. So, it is a lot of work.

Save your money and do it your self!! I't not that hard. But then again I've been painting cars and such for about 10 years http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

i have thought about that, i mean if i screwed up it will only look better than what is now. But i have no idea of what to buy to do it. I bought a silver can on spray paint some time ago. I havn't used it on the scratches cause i wanna be sure its gonna match. Anyway...what should i get? sand paper? some filler? for the deeper scratches....

Any thoughts would be helpful.
