View Full Version : Got my Essential Midpipe!!

Well i was down at ES tonight getting my midpipe put in. I actually bought Ian's old 2.5" (not sure if he's on the board, but his is the project MSP for ES, currently putting down some crazy HP like 270 and 290 ft lbs or something like that). The midpipe has had very little use. I had a bung for my EGT gauge welded in, and there was already a bung for a wideband O2...

What a difference! I can't wait to dyno it! Feels like it pulls harder all the way though the range, spools faster and seems to hold boost better. And the best part, the turkey is almost all gone! It sounds exactly like it did before, except that you can hear the turbo a bit more. If I were to estimate, I'd guess +10HP, and +15 ft lbs from what I had going into the shop.

As always, Kevin was great to deal with, answered all my stupid questions, and put up with me lurking / watching over his shoulder.

Oh, and LOCKDOWN installed my autodimming rear view mirror with temp and compass last night... http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif It's been a fun week so far! http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Congrats Kev, you had been slacking off there for a while!http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Now i need to get my exhaust installed before the cruise for a little side by side comparison! http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Does it have a cat? what did you do with the 2nd O2 sensor?

tiwing

Mike, I did get the cat. It's emmissions legal. the 1st O2 sensor is in the Mani, the 2nd O2 is installed after the cat, just like on the stock system, so no CELs.

As for some side by side, well I'd have to drive both of them for it to be a fair test because we know it really all comes down to driver ability. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Oh, and Joe, maybe when

If you guys really want to test the cars and compare driver ability make an appearance this Sunday at the AuotX at Ontario place! You won't be the only MSP's! http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Kev and I are talking about coming to watch. I'm going to the Mini test drive at 11 am at Downsview Airport so maybe the afternoon.
My exhaust is being delivered today, unfortunately i won't be there to get it. I hope to install it this weekend or get it installed.
What class would I be put in with an intake, catless exhaust, and boost controller?
I'd get killed wherever they put me regardless.

hmmm, you're either in DSS or DSP, I have to check the rules to see what they see about the boost controller and catless exhaust... Logan might also know.

Kevin, what was your car putting down before the midpipe?

Logan

Know what?

I don't seriously think I have any hope of winning anything this year. There are some seriously fast people in DSS, and I don't think I'm one of them.
Who cares if you aren't as fast as the others! It's about FUN, and that is what I am going to have ALL SEASON.

BTW:
Kevin, Mike, You're TOAST if you can ever shake off those feathers.

Moss, honestly I"m not positive. I know that the msp out of the box is about 151 at the wheels, and after stage 1 (hardpipes and CAI), it should have been at about 160-165 whp. I didn't have it dyno'd because I know ES had it dynod but I haven't been able to find it on the web. Oh, and I have Essential Speed stickers on my back window which is good for 2 hp.

Doug, I totally agree. If/when I do end up racing, it's all about me, not about how I place in the group. At least for now. I'm sure you'll hand my ass to me, and I'm OK with that.
