Does this air filter need to be "oiled " prior to first use?
Is it a "permanent" filter, and if so is the K&N cleaning kit suitable?
Is the quality compareable to K&N, or would it be wise to replace it witha K&N?

No need to oil the filter before the install. The filter is reusable so you can go ahead and use the K&N recharge kit. Clean and oil the element every 50,000kms - 100,000kms.
I'm not to sure how it compares to a real K&N filter but since you bought Ractive do you really have the "cash money" to go buy a $150 K&N Cone filter?

When you oil your filter, make sure you don't put too much on, it will get sucked into the intake and gum up the MAS, which CAN effect it's operation.
Just a warning...not likely, but it is a $410 part, so treat it like gold...not like the overpriced piece of sh*t plastic it is!

I've been told the K&N filter are better quality...they breathe better than the Ractive - also last longer.
MP5Navy - K&N filter aren't $150. I got mine, cone style 9 inch length, for $90. Don't know what it sounds like yet though....I haven't gotten a chance to install it yet...
